    Surah 5;5 "That which die's of itself,and blood, and ....strangled...is forbidden....but who's willful leanings to wrong shall be forced by hunger to sin, to him, will God be indulgent, merciful." {better then Watchtower policy}

    Surah 5;50 "O believers, take not Jews or Christians as friends. They are but one another's friends. If you take them as a friend, you are one of them! God will not guide the evil doers." {not very nice, but very clear}

    it is dangerous to base an opinion on selected quotes...look how the WT does it all the time

    BTW the Muslims that I know & work with ,have friendly relationships with other religions, just like anybody else

    Yeah but how do you mis-interpret "take not Jews or christians as friends..." Is this verse using reverse logic??? I'm an ex-Witness reading the Koran for the first time and I would understand this to mean DON'T HAVE ANY MUSLIM OR JEW FRIENDS!!!

    Are you sure you got your surah/verses correct? Or am I misunderstanding what you wrote?

    Those are not what I'm reading.

    Surah 5

    -5- This day are (all) things good and pure made lawful unto you. The food of the People of the Book is lawful unto you and yours is lawful unto them. (lawful) unto in marriage) are (not only) chaste women who are Believers, but chaste women among the People of the Book, revealed before your time, when you give them their due dowers, and desire chastity, not lewdness, nor secret intrigues. If any one rejects Faith, fruitless is his work, and in the Hereafter he will be in the ranks of those who have lost (all spiritual good).

    -50- Do they then seek after a judgment of (the days of) ignorance? but who, for a people whose Faith is assured, can give better judgment than Allah?

    Strange that Surah 5;5 contradicts the 2nd verse you've quoted.

    Sorry my verses are alittle off Surah 5; but the Verse is approx. correct. for some reason my English Koran does not have all the verses numbered which makes it hard...try between Verse 2 - 9

    No, they weren't witness, do you see this small part of the verse here:

    when you give them their due dowers,

    A prospective husband has to give his wife-to-be a 'dowry' also - ie a substantial gift, and I'm told, often it is whatever the wife asks for. Marriage is seen as a contract between both parties, not as one becoming the property of another. Perhaps it seems that way to us because, living in a comparatively safer society (haven't met any marauding tribesmen lately lol!), we've lost some of the significance of the idea of the husband being a protector of the wife and family? Just thinking out loud here. And to think that Islam didn't treat wives a property around 1000 years before Christianity (in the UK at least!)! Off to try and find the other verses you quoted now

    The correct citation is 5:51

    It's clear from the translation directly above.
