I had great fun with the first lot of JW's that called on my door after my JW hubby had left me.
I innocently (!!) answered the door (with my 3 year old in tow!!) They offered the mags - I accepted. As it was Saturday morning magazine work, they automatically turned to leave. However, I started talking to them about religion and how awful it was. To which they agreed.
I said "in fact there is one religious organisation that will ignore people that decide they don't agree with their views. And they will even let their children die rather than accept a blood transfusion because they believe that it is Gods rule. That isn't Christian, they are not showing love. I think they stink!!".
To which one of them said, "well we actually have a brochure that discusses the issue of blood transfusions and why we don't accept them" (Oh really?? - like I didn't know already, but I kept quiet). He handed me the brochure.
Me: but where does it say that God requires people to die rather than accept blood?".
JWs: well the Bible speaks of abstaining from blood.
Me: Yes i know that in Acts, the apostle Paul said about abstaining from blood, but do you think that was to point out to the first centruy christians how precious LIFE is, and that killing people in the arena for entertainment is wrong. In your brochure (I said waving the Blood booklet around) it quotes Tertulian who gave the example of some who carried off the blood of those who had been slaughtered to cure their epilepsy. But I think you will find that blood donor sessions are more civilised nowadays. You don't find people lying slaughtered outside donor sessions. And as God views LIFE as precious, surely we want to do all in our power to help preserve it - especially when people have freely donated their blood for this end.
JWs: You seem to know a bit about the subject. Have you ever studied with us before?
Me: You could say I am aware of your teachings (for that read 20 years as a JW, daughter of a (now ex) local Elder, and (ex) wife of a JW!!)
To cut a long story short, after a while I mentioned that I had been a Witness for 20 years, but now could no longer agree with it and that it had resulted in my husband leaving me. The JWs said "oh is your name ****?". They got it spot on. I had obviously been a hot topic for gossip in the circuit.
Once they twigged who I was they tried to take the literature back from me, but I refused to let it go. I thanked them for letting me have some fun with them, and as they were walking down the path I finished with "well at least you can add 2 magazines and 1 brochure to your report now".
I think I am down as a Do Not Call now!! What do you think??
