I know I've heard this a lot...that the December 25th date for Christmas was borrowed from paganism. I just came across this article which argues against that:

Personally, I have no problems with the idea that it could have been borrowed from paganism, but found this alternative explanation intriguing.

I think instead of sending a reader to some other place you should give an explanation in a nutshell what that article is about and then Im could decide should I go there or not.

Christmas is a total denial of the True Christianity. Christ was not born on December 25th. And you can see how early people begin celebration of Christmas like the first day after Thanksgiving or even earlier.

Back many years when I was in Poland the christmas carols were first sung in the evening on Christmas Eve ; not in November like in the USA.

Santa Claus is in place of God the Father which is a horrible offence against God of the Bible who is theTrue Giver of good things .Only God is good ! It is a dfifferent story to celebrate the birth of Jesus like it is given in the Bible when he was born or soon after he was born.

If someone becomes a true christian they should lead a holy life each and every day . This way each and every day of a year is a holy day to them.

Obves, that is really funny - you've never put anything in a nutshell in any of your posts - gave me a good little chuckle.

Obves - do you have different names for the days of the week as well?

Does the OT wisdom writings get a wide berth in your home since it clearly has Babylonian and Egyptian borrowings?

Do you wear a wedding ring?

Do you say Amen when you close your prayers?

Do you doubt many of the biblical themes because of identical pagan ones? http://www.mystae.com/restricted/reflections/messiah/pagan.html

Me - I celebrate christmas because it is good fun to make the house look sparkly and pretty and I've got a thing for eating chocolate tree ornaments. At no stage do I worship God, Buddha, Noodly, Santa, Satan, Amun, Thoth, Mithras or David Hasselhoff with my christmas tree, decorations or gift giving. I do use this time however to also remember Christ's birth, retell the Christmas story (even though surely you and I know it is riddled with lies and myths) and worship God via hymns and carols. I also enjoy the excuse to be together as a family.

One last question Obves - did you think the pharisees got a bum wrap in the NT?

Typical of a person who wants us to read his turgid posts and false prophecies. But who himself can't be bothered to read anybody elses.

Very interesting piece, but it asserts rather than shows that there was a tendency for prophets (or saints?) to have their birthdays correspond to their death dates in later tradition, and it would have been nice to have specific examples of this, and then there is a little tweeking to have the correspondence involve, not the date of birth, but the date of conception instead.

Well, there was this Emporer of King or someone like that who picked the day of Dec. 25th to celebrate Christ's birthday on the calender.

Just about everyone knows by now(Including all the Theologins) that Christ was born somewhere between August and October being that the shepards were tending the're flocks. NOT IN DECEMBER!
