Absolutely Fuming. My own brother was an accessory to stealing my car!

    Hi

I, like many others perhaps, feel very very strongly against people stealing personal possessions. There is a very clear law against it for starters but even without the written law it's still a no no in most eyes. They belong to me so don't abuse and take them.

So anyways last month my car got stolen whilst I was visiting a friend at the local hospital. Of all the times. It's only an old beat up vehicle but it used to do alright for me. So the police do the usual enquiries but I assume that's the end of that. Pitifully small insurance claim here we come.

Then, yesterday, out of the blue, my brother, who happens to drive the same make/model, tried at the local car salvage/ scrap metal dealers to get some parts for his old beat up model. Guess what? He recognizes my car in the yard being broken up for spares! It was already split up. They had the tyres loose to one side, the leather seating all taken out and the engine block hanging from a winch. My pride and joy dismantled. But the worst was yet to come.

My brother calls me to tell me the news. I am fuming when he tells me it's now beyond repair.

But here's the worst bit. My brother had originally gone there to look for a replacement set of wheels as he is having problems with the tyre valves. But he thought to himself, he obviously couldn't purchase the tyres because after all they are a pretty major part of the car itself and the car was mine. They are stolen goods. But, he saw no problem in buying off the dealer the set of tyre valves off the wheels.

Now to my simple mind, those valves and every last nut and bolt on that car belong to me.

He said, as the valves were only a very small fraction of what was a major component (the wheels) his conscience allowed him to take it. He may as well have taken the lot. Is there a difference?

    Thanks

If he knew it was your car, then yeah that was definitely dishonest of him. By the way, how did this scrap yard get your car? Are the police investigating that?

    Sorry about that mate.

This is my classic illustration in the flesh!!

He's obviously a JW who reasons that stealing a car is against God's law but that accepting "Car Fractions" is a matter of conscience . . .

Is this a sudden change in your brother's ethics system? Or is it that he has started including family in his victim list? Well, you can pick your friends but you can't pick your family.

Well, that completely sucks that your car got stolen and it was a lapse in judgment on the part of your brother to buy the valve stems, but labelling him as an accessory to the crime seems a bit harsh imo.

That bit of disloyalty is unacceptable.

How you deal with it is your concern.

Principle of the thing x 100.

no he wasn't an accessory he wasn't even an accessory after the fact.

You car was gone your car was DESTOYED wtf does it matter if he did in fact purchase the whole lot? Now I think he should have called you then the police and then given YOU the money for the parts but he's still not responsible for someone else stealing your car! You need to chill towards your bro.

Considering the car is un-salvageable, I see no reason to get upset... hell I would probably laugh at such a thing. (While aggressively pursuing the prosecution of the thief)

At the same time, I do not know the dynamics of your relationship with your brother. Underlying hostilities could be triggered by such an act.

I'd be happy for your brother he got the parts that he needed and quit being oversensitive. He had nothing to do with the theft of your car and at the point that he purchased the parts the car was cut apart, totally destroyed. Sure, getting your car stolen is a tough thing to go through, but don't go trying to look to blame others where there is no blame.
