The WT needed their own bible to further separate themselves from "Christiandom"... LOL, wasn't that obvious?
NWT? Why a different bible?

Simple. The bible is a book. Publishing companies sell books. The watchtower society is a publishing company. They have a captive audience, and they don't want their audience buying bibles from other sources.

that's close to 100 years after Jesus supposedly lived and did all the things written. That's plenty of time for a super-hero mythology to built up around a leader who may have been no more than a failed anti-Roman revolutionary.
Just wait! A hundred years changes a LOT! In 100 years GW might be a hero! Might just be the best president that ever lived! And thats with OUR lifetimes being almost 100 years. Imagine if we lived 40 or 45! So 100 years to them was like 200+ to us! Did George Washington REALLY cut down that cherry tree!?

I remember when I was a kid, seeing a new study in the hall who had brought his own family bible (non-JW) people were shocked and talking about it. I was like well isn't it just another bible too?

The JWs often say that they can prove what they believe from any bible. Thing is, they can't and so won't use any other bible to prove their beliefs.
JWs used KJ translation to "prove" their beliefs for years and many still use it in service to persuade those who trust nothing else.
Also, I once again ask any who fault the NWT rendering of John 1:1 to explain to me why the Greek CAN'T be rendered "the word was a god." I'm here to tell you that is a perfectly legitimate translation, but I'll gladly listen to counter-arguments.
As someone pointed out, insertion of Jehovah in many passages of NT is probably the most blatant manipulation of JWs in NWT.

The average JW will tell you the reason is to have the most accurate Bible possible.
The one time the Watchtower was really candid about the reason for it, their explanation was that the "need was felt for a Bible" which conformed to "revealed truth." That was in 1950. Need I say any more?
I bet they wish that piece of print would go away!

That pretty much sums it up......I wonder how many millions of $$$ they have made selling bibles????? That's a pretty nice protected revenue stream.

Umm, no, he did not.
