steph.....that indeed would be an interesting thing i think if a potential bible study ever said he/she was a trans sexual to anybody in my cong. after they picked thier jawbone off the floor they would suddenly remember some important thing they had to do and high tail it out the door! (no return visits to that householder im sure).................Jedd

“Transsexualism” is a word appearing with growing frequency in the news. A transsexual is not merely a transvestite (one who dresses in clothes of the opposite sex), nor necessarily a homosexual (though that may be the case). A transsexual is a person who rejects the sex with which he or she was born and takes up the life of the other sex. Claiming they were, in effect, “born in the wrong body,” many have undergone radical surgery and hormone treatments to attain a sexual transformation. An estimated 1,500 persons in the United States and about 150 in Britain have done so. What really do they accomplish? Is it possible to change a normal person (not a hermaphrodite of ambiguous sex) from one gender to another?
The answer is, No. As Dr. Georges Burou, a French surgeon prominent in the field, says: “I don’t change men into women. I transform male genitals into genitals that have a female aspect. All the rest is in the patient’s mind.” (“Time,” Jan. 21, 1974, p. 64) In reality, the ultimate result is either a severely (and irreversibly) mutilated man who resembles a woman, or a severely (and irreversibly) mutilated woman who resembles a man.
The increase of transsexualism is but one more facet of the spread of practices “contrary to nature” characterizing much of this present period. (Compare Romans 1:26.) The remedy for those with such inclinations is not surgery but a change in outlook, ‘being made new in the force actuating their minds’ with the aid of God’s Word.—Eph. 4:22-24.-Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it-

Isn't it interesting that to the society......anything from depression to being transgendered can be, in their words, "fixed" by having a different mindset or just by going to others in the congregation for guidance? They are truly Witless!

Why not go to a clinic farther away and have it done and not say anything? When you are being considered for being an elder or a MS, do they ask "Have you had a vasectomy? When did you have it?"

Blondie,
Your idea will work and I'm sure some are doing that.A sad thing though is for those who hang on every word the WT says.
Examples I know of are ones that were so excited when it became a conscience matter that they ran out and got Vasectomies and Tubeligations and because JWs are so bored they basically advertised this to the congregation or word spread from one person to another for the same reason.
Then WT changes their minds again!!How do you think those poor people felt knowing that the only thing most every one remembers is that you had a” Vasectomy “ or a “Tubeligation” and are so quick to look down on others they don’t care when you had it done?
It was never supposed to be a well known fact anyway so if a power mongering elder wanted to turn on you whether a fellow elder of regular publisher its now “open season” At the very least they could cause much stress and anguish over this until it was sifted through.
This doesn’t even take into account those who never say a word but privately have you branded as lacking spiritually in some way.

Howdy,
In South Carolina, and in Indiana (I'm from both) - it's usually the woman who ends up with a tubal ligation. The reason? She has no "position" within the congregation to begin with.....so therefore, nothing to lose.
Years ago, my husband asked several elders about it (mid 80's). They said he wouldn't be considered for "priveledges" if he had a vasectomy. But there were so kind as to point out that I could be cut on without any repercussions. Nothing to lose. Love those elders.
The women just whisper about it to each other - the men don't speak about it at all. Rather like the turn of the century, eh?

Vitameatavegamin
I have commented on this topic before and it the society's take on the matter really grates me. Just the fact that they imply that a person would have priviliges removed is just absurd! If they are going to make the point that sterilization interferes with God given reproductive powers, then they had better ban all birth control methods. Birth control pills stop a woman from ovulating. Then you have spermicides that kill sperm. Condoms, well you get the picture. I have got news folks, it ALL interferes with reproductive powers. It does not matter that the Society has statistics on sterilization successes or failures either. The fact of that matter is that reversals do work. And even if they did'nt, so what? The bible speaks of counting the cost before you make decisions. If you have all the children you can handle, or you just don't want any, I think that is a very personal choice. How on earth could this show a person is not spiritual?????? I think it is a very responsible thing. The further away from the JWs I become, the more I realize the idiocy behind some of these "policys". What about all the idiots that are appointed Elders(not all), but how can they use this as a spiritual guage?? What in the hell has sterilization got to do with anything anyway???????????????
Just my grouchy thoughts.

Being the good dub that I was, I actually asked an elder about this. He said it's nobody's business but my own, and nothing would happen if it became known to the cong.
HOWEVER, my still a dub brother had it done, then told an elder in his cong., and was barred from all cong. duties.
UNITY among the dubs. NOT!

Not long ago the Tower frowned upon having kids in a doomed system; the time is short and all that. These "permanent" methods of contraception would surely have seemed ideal back then. How does the Watchtower reconcile its two positions on this issue - the idea that it's not worth having kids but you shouldn't take a permanent step towards making that choice?
Has the anti-kids dogma been dropped due to the fact that Watchtower growth is now from birth rather than conversion?

This is in response to vitameatavegamin (whew! what a name) Recently a nurse explained to me how the pill works. It does not stop the ovulation when used with the ( can't remember what they are called) last different colored pills taken during meses. What the full cycle of the pill does is makes the uterus not accept, or allow the implantation of a fertilised egg. So what is happening according to some, a beginning of life not given the chance to survive due to not being implanted in the womb.
