Back when I was homeschooling my kids, we had a sliding glass door in our kitchen - 6 x 3 gloriously unobstructed feet of smooth glass.
My son and I did algebra on it, mostly. I did give the kids complete freedom with the whiteboard markers (or water-soluble ones).
