Why do you sign your dead body over when you go to Bethel?

This is in response to the thread about the supposed suicide of a bethelite in 1995.

In 1970 when I went to Bethel we signed a form stating that "If we died while at Bethel the Wathtower Bible and Tract Society had the rights to our body."

Yes, we thought it strange at the time but as a twenty year old you didn't think much about it.

I know of two brothers who killed themselfs while at Bethel and two others who tried end their lives. My guess is people have been killing themselfs at Bethel long before I ever got there.

Now, the "form" signing your body over makes perfect sence.

The good Doctor there will sign the death certificate...and the body they keep...

Other wise why have such a form?

Is that true? Wow! That's just creepy. Why wouldn't you release the body back to the family unless you thought there was a chance that you wouldn't want family seeing what you did to their son or daughter? There must have been a history to precipitate such a disturbing policy.

I think it is a legal thing. Some of the Bethelites have no family to take the body and dispose of it. I remember when a bethelite fell down the elevator shaft at Squibb (1973) on watchman duty his parents came to collect his body but if he had no family then the Society has to do something. Do you remember the question as to the disposing of the body? Cremation or cemetary plot? I believe the plots refered to the ones at the Farm in Walkill.

Yes that could be it too.

But what about Jimmy Olson who killed himself? He had a family.... and they still kept the body?

NEW BOY- Wow! Great thread guy ! Good topic. This organization is so bizarre they even try to control you in death ! That is really creepy. As you said, you knew of people committing suicide at Bethel , it would make sense for the GB to feel they have control , so they would control any " negative " information and control what people hear outside and inside the organization about what might really happen to potential suicide victims. This is really creepy. Did I say that already ? The more you learn, the creepier it gets

The Society outwardly says that they don't kill apostates, right?

The Society has outwardly said alot of things, and behind closed doors does something very different. Part of theocratic warfare.

My fear is that some Bethalites get "close" to alot of secret information. There are microphones and hidden cameras in Bethelite's rooms. Bethalites have no free time. They work 6 days a week, and spend the 7th out of Bethel at a KH. If a Bethelite was turning "apostate", I think Bethel would know. If the Bethelite "knew too much", I could see the Society having motivation to kill (or accidentally poison) the errant Bethalite, and make it look like a suicide. Bethel controls the food, clothing, water, etc. that the Bethelite drinks. After all, a bad Bethelite would leak information that would greatly damage the worldwide preaching work. So, the Society would be "justified" in its actions. If Bethel was able to "dispose" of the body before any investigation would take place...then we have the cover up. Bethel is never charged for the crime.

Just my thoughts. But, if anyone has anything concrete or anything they'd like to share....please p.m. me.

Jimmy Olsen's family elected for the WTBS to take care of thnigs. Think of cases like Wheelock when he killed himself. The WTBS had a mess on their hands since he had no family outside. Whats wrong with being buried at WT farms? It has a good view.

Jimmy Olsen's family were also probably Dubs. Thus, they will "go along" with Bethel's decision to cremate the body. They will not "see" the potential that Jimmy could have been murdered, by another Bethalite or by the Borg. Whenever a healthy person dies unexpectedly, there should be a formal autopsy.

Scientology is implicated in murders of fading followers. Bethel puts midly bad followers in the laundry & other slave type conditions. Why not murder the next big Apostate?

What was Jimmy's position at Bethel?

SKEETER- I tend to agree with you. The mind control is so rampant that I'm quite sure that the GB would excuse any conduct in the name of " theocratic warfare". I'm bumping this thread up guy, hoping someone has something. Anything. You are correct- if this bull happened in Scientology - it can happen in any " cult mind control " group. I hope your attorney friend gets a case to work on very soon . If any kind of abuse is occurring at Bethel, it needs to be leaked out and stopped. Good thoughts by you
