Chess: Many brothers enjoyed Chess. This seemed like a nice safe thing to do and it kept the group small. Several brothers enjoyed playing Chess with me because I could beat them all most of the time. Crackdown: Chess was seen as a game of war and could incite JWs to become enemies, learning the ways of war. So it too became frowned upon. But, I still played chess anyway.
One very holier-than-thou elder who loved chess too much to frown upon it, however, he made the effort to cut away the crosses on top of his wooden king-pieces. I always chuckled when we now and then played a game at his and I again noticed his mutilated kings...
I live in Topanga,California and I have a special relationhip with "Worf" and Boozerunner", both who post here. I left the "Troof" in 17 years ago, in 1984 I guess. I have had nothing but fun since!! Good luck to you and continue to really enjoy life!!
