"I was just thinking about idolatry and how to speak on it to a JW family member, and then there is this thread with all these wonderful examples and amazing logic."
It was divine direction at work. Ok well, maybe serendipity. Or maybe, the great subconscious. Or maybe, coincidence ;)

Easy folks......It's just a BUSINESS LOGO!
The WTB&TS of JWs is a BUSINESS with religion as its product. The only difference is
that its salesmen aren't paid. So why do the salesmen continue to sell the product? Because they think they will get
paid a huge bonus in the future when Armageddon comes.

Thanks, Satanus.

Well, what are you saying, Journey-On? It's not idolatry if it's a business logo? What about all the things the JW's say is idolatry, like having a celebrity's picture? Isn't that just successful marketing?

I said it tongue in cheek....Of course, it's idolatry. The point I was making is that while the Cross may be considered idolatry
as well, so can a Business Logo. One stands for the sacrifice of Jesus and one stands for the business of the WTB&TS.

Oh. Whoops, Journey-On, sorry if I jumped on you there. I must still be a little worked up from reading R. Crusoe's very sexist and incorrect opinions on another thread...

I would go further than to say JWs idolize the WTS leaders. I believe they have turned the Bible itself into an object of idolatry. Instead of finding a way to their own spirituality in the modern world, they fixate on the experiences of men who have been dead for thousands of years.
"If you take the Christian Bible and put it out in the wind and the rain, soon the paper on which the words are printed will disintegrate and the words will be gone. Our bible IS the wind and the rain."

And one more thing that came to mind: Those embarrassment badges. During the Grand Boasting Session, those embarrassment badges are to be treated as a worldly person might a cross. They are to be worn at all times, not just while in the building (for which they would serve a legitimate ID purpose), but while outside after the program. I think they expect people to venerate what that embarrassment badge stands for (which is whatever the Filthful and Disgraceful Slavebugger says).

I also had a problem with their 'veneration' of the faithful slave/GB/Anointed. Definitely sounded like creature worship to me.
As far as their logo is concerned, I saw pictures of some jewelry with this logo on it. Talk about veneration! Personally, I felt it was rather unattractive and I would never want to wear such a thing. This just goes to show that nobody is above idolatry. To some of the individuals in the religion it would take on the significance of how a crucifix is viewed to people in other christian religions.
