Gotta take my kid to his rheumatologist tomorrow

    Dag, I dread it.

We went back in October and he was disgnosed with arthritis. He got a steriod/cortisone shot in his knee (painful). We're afraid the doc will do the other knee tomorrow. I'm taking my baby boy (he's 11,but you know how us moms are) out to lunch afterwards.

On the bright side, the knee he "fixed" in October hasn't swelled or hurt since then.

The doc scared me to death last time, he checked for Crohn's disease and all kind of stuff. Probably because we have insurance, the bill was over $2,000 for an office visit.

Any of you ever dealt with juvenille arthritis?

I asked the doc if my son's condition was inherited from me. I had scoliosis. He said the two weren't related but what he has is genetic.

Anyway, wish up a safe trip to B'ham tomorrow.

Ah sweetie, I well know that an appointment for a child is worse for you than if it were your own appointment. I'll be thinking of you. Let us know how it goes and give the boy a hug from JWD.

Make sure he gets dessert too.

He wants to go to Logan's Roadhouse and throw his peanut shells on the floor.

I know it won't be painless, but I have a few jokes ready and will talk to him while they do it. If that's what needs to be done. I'm not sure how bad his other knee is.

    Hi Dinah,

    I was diagnosed with JRA.

I can remember as young as three being in terrible pain with my knees. I would wake up in the middle of the night in terrible pain. I can remember running to my parents bed and my mom rubbing my legs for me.

I had treatment with high does of aspirin, I was around 10/12 when I had this. It seemed to have done the trick, because I pretty much have grown out of it.

I have to watch my activity level, some things affect me more than others, and be careful I don't overdo things. The weather really affects my knees, I usually know three days in advance if it's going to rain (who needs the weather man eh?? lol). Spring and fall are hard times of the year for me, wild weather changes affect my knees as well.

I hope all goes well for your son tomorrow!

    BB,

My son was about 4 the first time his knees swelled. So do you have problems now? I've been praying its something he will grow out of.

No, if I watch what I do, how much time I spend on my feet etc, I'm ok. It's only when I overdo it that I suffer. I've been pretty lucky with not having the inflammation, it's mostly just pain.

I hope he'll grow out of it too! It's not a pleasant thing to suffer with. I feel for him!
