This is a suggestion really, I don't know if it's in the right sub-forum. I have read the chapters available online via Wikipedia but the risk involved in ordering the book to read the rest is just too great. Does anyone who knows Ray Franz feel that they could approach him about getting the book made available to purchase online as an e-book? It would be much easier for current JW's to order in PDF format to an anonymous e-mail address to then download onto a pen drive or similar device. This book is dynamite and should be available to JW's in a less risky format.
Crisis of Conscience as an e-book?

It would certainly be a good idea imo. It's a difficult title to find here in Oz (and I suspect many other countries), I had to order a copy over the net, they had to order it in from the States. Took about 5 weeks all up. Would have been easier to download it and pay via paypal. Just an idea...

Yes, payment via Paypal would be even better! I realise that eventually people have to make a decision and a stand but in the period of early doubts anything that involves too much risk of exposure as "an apostate" tends to be prohibitive.

You can order the book and have it shipped via UPS or FedEx. Just request a personal pickup at the UPS or FedEx center so that it won't be delivered to your home. You can request that they not send a notice to your home upon arrival. They will hold the package for three days. You can determine when it arrives by the type of shipping you request (overnight, two days, three days etc.) If you have a trusted friend you could have it shipped to their address. Also the public library in most cities either stock the book or have access to it. All you have to do is request it and they will get it for you. Just a couple of other options to consider in case the ebook option never happens.

For those lurking who aren't aware, the links to downloading certain chapters of Ray's book in PDF format are here . The Wiki article on Ray Franz is large and you will find the links under Bibliography.
For Crisis of Conscience there are 5 chapters available plus table of contents.
For The Search For Christian Freedom there are 2 chapters available plus table of contents.
Extremely generous for an author to make such an allowance.

Revenue loss is likely the issue for Ray. PDF's and E-books would soon be available all over the Internet.
I think the suggestion to order it to a business address [or even have a bookstore order it and just pick it up there] is a good one.
I read mine while watching all the time for an elder or other to 'catch' me, in the uptown coffee-shop, hiding it behind newspapers while I walked home, etc.
I would love to be able to print certain portions for use in letters to some former friends - but ultimately I must respect Ray's attempts to protect his intellectual property.

I understand the reluctance of Ray to have this electronic. It is difficult to sell a book if you can get it on line.
However, I found the books to be a tough read and would be far more valuable as a searchable file.

yeah your right, I suppose we all want something for free, and unfourtunatley if you look hard enough you will be able to find the whole book on the net. It would not be fair for anyone to post it on the net, any revenue should go to Commentary Press and Ray Franz.

The issue here is no different from the dilemma facing any group with intellectual property. Isn't this basically the reason why the TV writers are on strike and why there is such a problem with downloading music.
The creators of intellectual property need to be compensated, but in this electronic age the old rules don't apply.
