Remember the mock soap opera Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman? Remember the character Loretta, played by Mary Kay Place and how she became a country singer and had a big hit with a song called Baby Boy?

One of the coolest compliments I ever received was when I moved to Chicago from Atlanta at that time and people thought I spoke just like the Loretta character. She had a tongue in cheek southern accent.

When the girls were young we had one of those now ancient 8-track players. We had a tape of silly songs that we all loved. For some very odd reason those songs have been rolling around in my head for the last few days - perhaps in anticipation of a thread just like this one.

I was in a bar one night, after my second wife and I seperated, and I met three other guys who were also recently divorced. We chatted for hours and when this song played on the juke box we sang outloud right along with it. People must have thought we were nuts,,and drunk!
