Thank you for all your replies. You all have given me a couple of ideas that I have not tried yet.

Thank God I am not the only one with this problem! lol I was wondering if my daughter (6 year old) was a freak! She is like her dad, night owls both of them! We let her watch a movie (pooh or something sedate like that) in bed to put her to sleep (yes we are BAD parents)...when the movie is over if she isn't asleep..to bad..she just has to lay there till she goes to sleep.

Oh do you get the "I'm hungry" howl as soon as you put yours to bed??? Drives me nuts!!!!!!! Every night the same thing...but I'm ssssoooo hungry...well next time eat your dinner....but i'm hungry now...aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh

    kids..gotta love them...

We had the same problem w/our 5 y.o. I would try Epsom Salt Baths (yes they do help). If this doesn't work, try going to the Health Food store and buying melatonine (natural supplement). If either of these don't work, try taurine supplement.

The Epsom Salt baths worked like a charm for my 5 y.o., something to do with the magnesium being absorbed into the skin.

My 14 y.o. was diagnosed with ADHD - and they wanted to put him on Ritalin. Went to the natural healing doc, and he said to uptake the Zinc. Worked like a charm.

    agreeing with petty here.

Chamomile tea also works for some children.

Have you tried letting them listen to some of the Disney books on tape? Those are great. They can just lay there and listen.

I would NOT spank, pers. opinion here. As long as they are paying attention in school and not taking naps afterwards I wouldn't worry.

But if the bedtime is 9 pm, and they don't want to go to sleep, you've got to make it clear to them that they have to READ or listen to books on tape ONLY. No coming out of their rooms. No playing etc. Each infraction should result in a 15 min penalty the next night.

I always needed my sleep, my sister was a night owl and would try to make me stay awake too.

Just another thought along the lines of Lisa and Petty.

I seem to recall that my doctor told me that Calcium is a natural sedative.....maybe worth a try.

I just got Enya's recent cd, and that seems to calm my 2 year old down. As a matter of fact, Tori Amos' Under the Pink does too...
