I just can't stomach the time wasted in meetings and in the literature about the JW stand on holidays.

We try to explain why we don't celebrate Christmas, Mothers Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving Day, etc, etc, etc.

Yet in reality, other than the Memorial and Anniversaries, we don't celebrate anything, regardless of the origins of the holiday.

If a new holiday was created encouraging people to be nice to each other, we still wouldn't celebrate it ... it would be worldly!!!

All the time and energy put into determining the origins of certains days is just a waste of time. It wouldn't matter how it started. We won't celebrate it!

Researching on and on about how a day came to be celebrated is just a smokescreen for the fact that NOTHING else will be celebrated.

    Colossians 2:16, 17 (KJV)

Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

We dont celebrate holidays because we are miserable bastards and God wants you to have an unhappy life. All that crap about Jehovah being a happy God is just not true

All I know is that every month it's time to blow more money on stuff that I'd rather not or can't afford and say dumb stuff that I don't mean, like happy birthday. Does anybody really give a hoot when you popped into the world?

All I know is that every month it's time to blow more money on stuff that I'd rather not or can't afford instead of putting it into the Worldwide Pedophile Defense Fund, and say dumb stuff that I don't mean, like happy birthday instead of going out all day in field circus. The main reason they don't celebrate anything is that they want the machines to spend all their time and money out in field circus and giving it all to the Filthful and Disgraceful Slavebugger.

fredyi! You've hit it on the head, oh negative one! The WTBTS doesn't want you to spend your money on anything but the pedo fund...a couple bucks for a card that would brighten someone's day? Heck no, put it in the box at the back of the hall. And brotherly love? Nah, why would you want to celebrate the day a family memeber or friend was born? Who cares?

The ban on holidays is about greed and control. Give your money to the WTBTS and stay miserable so we can tell you how happy you are and that you're only happy becuase you're a JW. I can almost see Rutherford now, smokin a stogie, swilling some fine whiskey..."just wait and see what I can get these rubes to do...give up birthdays & holidays...ha ha ha! Just because I told them that Jehoober said so!"

    It's all hogwash.

No, it's commercialism keeping people on one of those tread mills that you can't get off of that keeps people in debt and distracted. It' not about keeping up contributions to the borg which I opted out of. They aren't wrong about everything.

The Jews celebrated holidays, you think Jehovah would have given his new people something to replace the Jewish festivals with. Holidays are good, they give people something to look forward to, something to enjoy in life.

The video points out that Jesus never told people to celebrate his birth. True, but did Jesus command people to do lots of things we take for granted today? No. Did Jesus command us to go from door to door, turn in field circus slips every month, and report everyone that we contacted? No, but the witlesses do it anyways. Jesus didn't tell us every little thing we could or could not do, and for sure he didn't have that "everything is forbidden unless explicitly permitted" attitude that the Watchtower Society seems to insinuate that he had.

The cut about only two birthdays celebrated in the Bible is a blatant lie. Job's sons celebrated their birthdays, and it did not include someone's head getting cut off and served them on a platter. And, Luke 2:10-14 details that the angels in heaven were celebrating Jesus' birthday. True, we do not know when it is, but that doesn't make it wrong to observe it. Nor does it make it wrong to observe a birthday of a regular human. The specious argument that we need to love everyone equally is a blatant lie, since that simply isn't going to happen (besides, when a different day comes, someone else will have their birthday).
