When, if ever, did you start caring about POLITICS?

    This ghost LOVES some politics!

I've been interested in politics since I was about 8 years old. It was the 1984 US presidential election: Reagan/Bush Sr. vs. Mondale/Ferraro. I was hoping Mondale would win because Geraldine Ferraro would have been the first woman vice president in US history. Of course, Reagan thoroughly dominated Mondale and easily won a second term. Ever since then, I've leaned Democratic. I was glad to see Clinton win both terms, though I admit to liking Ross Perot in '92 until I realized he was nuts. The 2000 election infuriated me, and the 2004 election was even worse.

I was thinking that 2008 was looking good for the dems, but now that McCain has all but locked up the GOP nomination, I'm not so confident. In particular, I'm not sure how many American "swing voters" and "independents" are going to vote for a woman or a black over a white male war hero.

I was raised a JW, but my parents always watched the political scene and had opinions. They taught me to be interested because as witnesses you have to know these things to talk intelligently to prospects.

So, I've always been interested in politics and got my voter registration done as soon as I was out. This will be my third Presidential election.

Like Mulan, I always had an interest in politics, in order to "be a more effective Witness." However, I did not "care" about politics until the first election after I left (1992). Since then I have been a political junky, with a serious jones every 3 years, lol.

I watched the Watergate trials back when Nixon was getting his ass kicked. 1972-73 I believe. I was 14 or 15 years old then. Worked as a scrutineer for an election then as well. Just applied this week for a job for Elections B.C. for 1 year of employment. (I am semi retired).

Thanks for all the various perspectives.

world traveller struck a personal chord for me.

As a young JW in elementary school guess who I really wanted to get elected as president?

    Tricky Dick!!!

    That's right, Richard Nixon.

Hey, I didn't know any better. I guess that's what disillusioned me on politics.

I grew up with a mother who was quite passionate about politics and I think I inherited it. I always believed that it mattered a great deal which political party was in office, so became quite active as an adult by becoming a member of a political party and campaigning on their behalf. I was very idealistic which resulted in a great deal of disallusionment at times too. When I became a JW this stopped but I was campaigning for the WT Party so that was okay . Now that I don't vote for the WT anymore I take an interest in politics again and shall vote but that is all.

I was hooked on those hearings. My next door neighbor would come running over to see if I was watching, because it was getting so juicy. She said they were so much better than soap operas, which were preempted during the hearings. They went on for weeks it seemed.

John Dean handled himself so perfectly, and brilliantly...........I was impressed. Since then I've read all of his books. His one on the Bush administration "Worse Than Watergate" was very, very good.

for the few kid years I wasnt a JW. We lived in a home that was patriotic and civics minded. That always stuck with me. I was always a closet politcal and social issue junkie.

I never could be ashamed of my relatives who served the country... law men, military, and other civil affairs.
