My psychiatrist told me therapy was not going to cure my headaches (yah). My home-doctor (I don't know if thats the system you have too, but here we have one general doctor who gives his patient referrals to see specialists), does not believe any referral to any medical specialist will help me. That's cuz I have tried so much already, and any referral will give me hope that there might be a cure - which in his opninion is not possible. I just have to live with it.

It feels like a deathsentence. I am in this black hole of misery where I see two options - to live without headache or to not live at all/

I have contacted a private clinic for neurofeedback, and am currently on the waiting list (about 1 tot 3 months). I tell myself that I will endure it for now, and that that treatment will help.

But if it does not .. Surely if I have the right to live, I also have the right to decline that right ? My own thoughts scare me, I feel as depressed as a shrimp.

I'm guessing you've already gone down the path of a change in diet, prescriptions, or even aspartame in causing your headaches.

I wish you luck in your search for a cure.

Viv, as a serious headache sufferer, I can only sympathise!!! The way I see it, if you have a headache, something must be wrong, and there must be a way to fix it. In South Africa we have a clinic called The Headache Clinic (www.headacheclinic.co.za) and they have so many specialist that run loads of tests - I have heard great things about them and am thinking about going. Surely there mist be something similar in Europe?

Sorry to hear you've got such chronic pain Vivamus.

At least you've still got some hope for relief with the neurofeedback route.

Have you read/talked with those who live with it indefinitely? Avishai springs to mind.

    Just a thought.

Please make sure your doctor knows about your depression as well.

    Take care,

    OM

Hey, I feel for you. I wish there was an easy answer.
I started having headaches as an adult on a regular basis.
Doctors called them "migraine" to pretend they understoood.

    Notice a definition of Migraine:
Migraine headache: The most common type of vascular headache involving abnormal sensitivity of arteries in the brain to various triggers resulting in rapid changes in the artery size due to spasm (constriction). Other arteries in the brain and scalp then open (dilate), and throbbing pain is perceived in the head. The tendency to migraine is inherited and appears to involve serotonin, a chemical in the brain involved in the transmission of nerve impulses that trigger the release of substances in the blood vessels that in turn cause the pain of the migraine. These nerve impulses cause the flashing lights and other sensory phenomena known as an aura that may accompany a migraine. Not all severe headaches are migraines and not all migraines are severe.
Factors known to make migraines worse in some patients include stress, food sensitivities, menstruation, and the onset of menopause. Most patients will feel better if they lie down and avoid bright lights. Prevention measures can include taking preventative medication (usually an antispasmodic) and avoiding any known migraine triggers. Medication is also available that can ease the pain of a current migraine.

It means virtually NOTHING. In essence, it means "bad headache that can be caused by different things."

In my case, they talked about stress and exercise, a chiropracter talked about a pinched nerve and how
I would need to come back every week for the rest of my life for his ten minute session that cost $25 at
the time. Finally, on my own, I determined that it was a vision problem. I needed glasses. As soon as
I put them on, no more headaches. All the doctors were a waste of time.

Yours probably isn't the same as my problem, but you are getting the same run-around. Every specialist
will tell you that he "knows" what is wrong. HA. Best of luck with searching for your solution.
Meanwhile, try relaxing. Have a nice weekend.

Pain is awful and when your GP isn't very helpful,it can become seemingly unbearable.

Try if you can to not give up hope that you will find some cure or treament to make the headaches less traumatic

Vivamus, I sympathize with you and hope you find a cure.

When I was in my teens and early twenties I used to get bad headaches. I remember several times when I literally banged my head against a wall repeatedly in an effort to knock myself unconscious. (didn't work). I never found the cause of the headaches but they stopped on their own. Not completely, but they're rare now. I'm not sure what made the difference, but I made a lot of changes in diet, home and work environment, etc.

    Hope you're feeling better soon.

As someone who also suffers from chronic migraine headache everyday i can totally sympathise with what you are going through. I was told that an occipital injection would most likely help me ease the pain somewhat.

    Im thinking of you.
