I just remembered that for a while, among the young fellas in my congregation, that dusters (those tench coats that cowboys wear in Australia) bacame popular. (I never owned one). Of course, we DID live in rural Utah-an area that was stricken with a bad case of redneckery. Imagine pairs of teenage boys walking from door to door on your street on a Saturday morning wearing dusters. What a bunch of dorks.
Did you have any fashion fads among your peers in your congregation?

For a while the guys in the hall wore light brown suits with blue shirts. I have no idea where these guys got the idea that it looked good, because it didn't.

What about Girbauds? Those jeans with the tag across the fly?

My mom would never allow me to spend the $70 on a pair of Girbauds. I wasn't allowed to "Peg" my pant legs either.

I was the first in my cong to try leather ties in the late 70's. I was counciled of course, until the natural inherent hippocracy of the brothers finally took over, and it became ok when it was no longer fashionable. I know some that got ear peircings, I didn't, and some in later years, got tatoos.
The secret to getting away with it,was to do it when it is no longer a fad. When no on cares anymore! Heck you wouldn't want any attention for being unique now would you? Just like the watchtower. Always sapping every ounce of harmless joy out of anyone that will allow themselves to be subjected to it. Thus creating conformity of mind and reverse peer presure. The rest is a peice o Cake!

In western Colorado cowboy boots, brothers and sisters, yes with their skirts. Bolo ties for the older men. The young ones always seem to wear what is in style no matter what is said from the platform.
