I realised they wanted obedience and submission, and went ahead and got baptised anyway. I wanted it to be true and mentally justified it along the usual lines of "reasoning".
Am I the only one that didnt realize about the GB?

You are not the only one who never heard about the GB. I also never heard much about them until years later when they started drilling the point home about "obedience" to these men.
It was like the proverbial iceberg. Three quarters is hidden underwater that you don't see. There is no way in hell I would have joined this religion if I knew the truth about it all.
