Maybe that should be grounds to not go at all--

I hated the food arrangement both pre and post BYOF. Before the food was awful and it was always short. Nothing like standing in line only to have a danish for lunch. After a few assemblies I would leave and then find myself receiving glares from others as I pulled food out of my bag from a fast food restaurant nearby. Working the food stand was the worst. The food always ran short and the rudeness that resulted was just oh so Christian. I participated in the BYOF for a bit but again after tiring of the inconvenience I would walk to the restaurant(s) near the stadium along with all the other smart JW's and enjoy a decent meal. YA Ya the talks and announcements continued but we went anyways. The scene in Long Beach was the coffee shop downstairs. The glares from the Nazi's as we walked out with fresh coffee and pastries were classic. The stadium even set up a bar-b-que outside and again the glares. I never understood why they had such an issue with the community or the stadium making money. Wouldn't that make JW's more attractive to book the venue?

How interesting--Thanks for the news report, Blondie!

The food at the assemblies sucked, nearly as bad as the so-called spiritual food.

Convention venues don't like the idea of renting out the premises for the auditorium only. To close the concessions for 3 days, to not collect parking fees while the parking lot is being used, and so forth, means that people who are employed for those positions don't get to work. Their union reps could likely file grievances for lost wages, especially when there's clear evidence (and common sense) saying that JWs would utilize those services if they were made available.

The WTS is too damn cheap @$$ed to fork out the extra cash for those services, so they hound the convention delegates about bringing in food items from outside merchants. Convention venues probably send their own people to monitor how many JWs come in with Tim Hortons or Starbucks coffee or go out for lunch at the restaurants in the area - and then they refuse to bargain with the WTS reps for cheap @$$ auditorium rental only prices.

The WTS likewise wants to squeeze every nickel it can out of the JWs who attend, and would rather keep shaming JWs about bringing in outside food/coffee and beating them over the head with the Donate-More-To-Pay-For-This-Spiritual-Food™ mantra.

Do you know the real reason why they stopped serving the deli sandwhich's,shasta soda, pudding, and the fresh bags of fruit? Did they need a vendor license? Was refridgeration a problem with health inspectors?

    1. jws were wasting food (during the "free" food time) 2. paying taxes on profit (when they charged for the food) 3. many jw men wasted a lot of time "volunteering" in this area It came down to money, jws were wasting food and not donating.
