I'm trying to read through some posts on this board to see what the central focus is, who comes here, etc. It looks like many people here are ex-JW's, but are all? Or is it a combination of both?

Combination of both. I do believe there are more exjw's than there are others. Btw. Welcome. Hope this place answers your questions and serves your needs.

I thought the perspective of ex JWs would help me a lot. We've been having studies lately with some current JWs, and I really want to find out what works best to help them get to a point of opening their minds to the possibility that the Watchtower Society might not be the end all and be all without coming out and saying, "The Watchtower Society is wrong," because I know I won't get very far with them if I start out criticizing the WS. What puzzles me is why they're even still COMING to talk to us, but I figure as long as they keep coming, I'll keep trying. My husband and I don't feel we are being led to stop speaking with them anyway. So I guess I have a question for X Witnesses... What made you decide to leave?

The reason I left was the utter hypocrisy and outright corruption. Not to mention now that I have done research (which btw the witnesses have strict rules about not doing unless it is the WTBTS publications) and from what other ex witnesses have said about their experiences regarding the harbouring and defending of kid touchers and family abusers. You will see, if you keep doing research, that the witnesses are rotten from the top to the bottom. Also, you will see that the witnesses are nothing more than a multi level marketing type of organization just selling literature and making some corporate fat cats even richer on the backs and hard work of its cult members under the guise and tyranny of a religion.

Read them 1 Thes.5:21... ask him why he isn't allowed to make sure of all things... ask him to show you the scriptures that says you don't have the right to disagree with the so called "Faithful and discreet Slave". When he gives you the scripted response that says that questioning them is apostasy, then tell him you're not questioning the Christ nor God, but the FADS. Then pull a coup de gratis. Show him the Jerusalem fell to the Babylonians in 586BC not 607BC which means the whole 1914 doctrines is an outright lie, and the man that expose this lie Carlof Johanson, was dis-fellowshipped for not being able to preach this lie any longer. Was he an apostate for not teaching lies?

For me it is the shunning (disfellowshipping) of young ones. They are encouraged to get baptized at a young age, then if they experiment with, say, smoking, partying, etc..they could get disfellowshipped. Being shunned by the enitre congregation, friends, and family. It's just not right, not to mention unloving.

Dawg, I enjoyed your explanation,so simply said but so true. I will keep that on file when and if I ever encounter one of those Poor misinformed JW's again. I
