is because everything is getting automated...
Anyone know if there is any truth to that?

That's been a subject of conversation here for a little while.
Automation and cost savings are the largest factor. Also since the donation arrangement took hold, there has been a reduction in literature printed. So there's a reduced need for people in the factory.
They want the young, naive hard workers in Bethel to squeeze a lot out of them before they get too old, and then when they reach middle age they get "reassigned" to distant pioneer territory.
It's a loving organization !
COGNAC- It would have to be a hell of a lot of automation to lay off 300 Bethel workers in the month of January 2008 alone ! This was according to someones recent thread on this same subject on the board. More than likely it is a cost cutting endeavor so they won't have people in their mid 30's to early 50's bogging down the society with medical expenses which they'd have to pay out. Also , it helps them save money to pay out on more future child abuse cases , which by the way , are in the works
Its all about money with the WT.

Did you hear anything new???
COGNAC- Yes I did. But due to confidentiality I'm not at liberty to say anything about it , or my sources

Care to expand on this thought?

Holy crap. I wonder how much they are paying out per year in lawsuits...

Can you at least give a time frame when we might expect some news?

PS in the interest of keeping the thread on track....yes, increased automation is a reason for the layoffs, but far from the only reason.
If it were the only reason, then why are 99% of the layoffs persons who are between the ages of 45-60? If increased automation were the sole reason, wouldn't it make more sense to lay off the young dudes who were doing the grunt work and the heavy lifting for the older, more manual way of doing things?
SIR 82 - I'm not at liberty to say anything more . But all in good time friend, all in good time. Gotta be patient is what I was told
