As you all know I am a huge Frank Zappa fan, and he has had some of the world's best musicians play in his band. He also had great drummers, but my personal favorite was Terry Bozzio. He reminds me a little of a young Keith Moon with his wild expressions. I will give a couple of YouTube links to demonstrate his skills (Warning: the first one has some obscene lyrics):

John Fogarty had a drummer a while back..This guy was a madman..One of the best drummers I`ve ever heard or watched..He was a show unto himself..

The best rock drummer I've never heard of? Not sure who that would be. ;)
I saw Bozzio do a drum clinic a few years ago. Amazing. However, he was doing his drum solo stuff and not "rock drumming" per se.

I agree, categorizing him as a "rock" drummer is way too much of a pigeon hole. You understand, but many others wouldn't for this topic.
