We are not designed(Or whatever) to be always happy, we need downtime and to be miserable from time to time. The fact JW's feel they HAVE to be publicly happy all the time is an indication of their unnatural and unbalanced state of mind.

Maybe because they are happy! Just because we weren't happy to be there, doesn't mean they feel the same way.

Why are we trying to make excuses for their happiness?

Our we some how projecting our unhappiness in life onto them?

They smile because they are happy. They belong to a cult and all of their futures are decided if they do as they are told. They are happy because they no longer have to think about lifes big questions. They are happy because they 'know' why we are here; what purpose does life have for them; what happens when we die?, is there a hell? why do bad things happen to good people? At the KH they get to bask in the opiated mist of the bOrg; they are with their kind of folks so they smile --- but I don't remember many smiles in Wisconsin or Illinois, so maybe it's the weather?

    God bless them.

The bible says you must be like a little child to see the kingdom.

"Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all."

    Mark 10:15

    I cant do it.

The bible also says faith comes from god.

He didnt give me enough faith to be like a little child.

I also left because the Jehovahs witnesses are false prophets and they should be taken out and stoned and the world didnt end in 1975.

Because misery loves company! Besides, if you're depressed, it shows spiritual weakness.

Fake. It is blatantly obvious that they are faking it. They might have that fake smile on, and then they will snap at you for something trivial. Then they have to show the world that they are the happiest people on the planet, which is a blatant lie.

It got so I could not sing Kingdumb Malady #16. That is the one that tells you to be joyful and be happy. It should read "Look and act joyful; look and act happy". I wonder how many people would think it would be funny if the CD started skipping badly and could not be fixed when they try playing that sxxx.

They wouldn't think it was funny - they'd start calling out Jehoobie, Jehoobie because obviously it's Satan and his demons silly

Why are we trying to make excuses for their happiness?

Our we some how projecting our unhappiness in life onto them?

Admittedly, the distinction between trying to understand "their happiness" and "make excuses" for it depends a lot on what you think of their belief system and whether you even think they are happy in the first place! It's hard to be unbiased whether you're a believer in the Watchtower or a critic; each side brings its own biases. However, I personally was surprised that the topic asked "Why do the majority of JWs look so happy at the hall?" because my observations and experience suggested that most looked tired and, at best, lacking in vitality.

As for the second question - about projecting our own unhappiness onto them - I acknowledge that it's a tricky question because it takes us into the theoretical murky realms of the human unconscious and unknown impulses. It makes the assumption that posters are unhappy and are trying to deflect it from themselves by saying that it's the JWs who are unhappy. Excuse me, but this kind of convoluted Freudian mumbo-jumbo is hard to prove one way or the other. It also smacks of the popular trick of the Watchtower when people express doubts: Don't answer their questions but instead question their motives. That'll silence 'em.

I can't speak for others on this forum, but I myself am a happy individual - much happier than I was when I was rubbing shoulders with the local congregation. I just thought the question raised as a post topic was the opposite to my own observations: The local JWs just don't appear to be happy withtheir bagsful of physical aches and pains and dreary take on life in this world.

Seriously, I would put on a happy face when I went, because if I didn't then I knew somebody was going to give me the third degree...
