I cut them off and say "No thank you, NEVER call here again." click. I don't accept no for an answer - I don't call 1-800 numbers to get off the list - I tell them they're going to do it.
It's rude, but they're rude to be bothering me.

Ask for their home number and say you'll call them right back - they're sure to say we don't give out our home number - oh why is that? don't like getting calls at home?
I have Caller ID (necessary just in case the call is from Brother Hounder). If I see a telemarketer come up, I will pick up the phone and hang up immediately.
I don't have a land line, so telemarketing calls aren't a problem. I do get a text message spam about once a week, which is very annoying.

personally, i have registered on do not call sites, use caller ID and if i do somehow get tagged.... i ask that the number be removed
