In Volume II, Mr. Russell predicted: "...the final end of the kingdoms of this world, and the full establishment of the Kingdom of God, will be accomplished near the end of 1915. "

It is heartwarming, is it not, to think that for the last year of his life CTR was thinking, "Just HOW FULL of shit am I?"

    Caedes,

Thanks for your comment even though your words were a little rough but what the hell if what you say is true then I stand humbly corrected. However you have misinterpreted my words and maybe thats my fault for not being articulate enough and maybe your fault because you do not know me.Let me try to explain but please do not think for one minute that I meant in any possible way to down play the sacrifice paid by all the armed forces in any of the two world wars and for that matter in the American civil war ,I also speak as an ex member of the Royal Air Force and as a grandson of a first world war soldier who was gassed ,mentioned in dispatches , was shot which resulted in the loss of a leg in a place called Mesoptamia which incidentally is now Iraq.I have managed to trace the memorial of a great uncle of mine who was killed on the last day of the battle of the Somme in November 1916 his body was listed as unknown but his memorial is at Thiepval a place I intend to visit this summer with my son. There we will pay our respects to the fallen and as far as I am aware we shall be the first in my family to visit that place since 1916.Hope this won't bore you but I will try again later to explain what I meant.Just to conclude this segment I have heard from first hand witnesses about the horrors of war, my mother stood on Rochester railway station with tears in her eyes and watched troops coming back from Dunkirk many of them bedragled. My Father worked in aircraft production in Kent during the Battle of Britain his factory was bombed to the ground he survived with four others by sheltering in a pill box which was cracked from top to bottom my mother waited outside the factory gates to see if my father had survived luckily he did or I would not be sending this now.My parents house which incidentally was new as they had only been married a short while had all the windows blown out during an air raid, they saw the orange and red glow of the blitz on London from as far away as Kent.My Father told me how he he used to watch the dog fights between the RAF and the Luftwaffe up in the skys over Kent.My parents and Grandparents made sure I knew all about the horrors of war.I have read quite a bit as well.

    Best wishes Edmond.

I know somebody will probably argue with me about it.

But the minute Great Britain entered the conflict, the war went global since Germany moved to attack the empire's global merchant shipping with raiders in the Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian oceans. Also, the Battle of Frontiers took place August the 12th through 24th in 1914. Since the British Expeditionary Force fought in that series of battles, I would say Britain was already in the war.

As to whether prophecy was fulfilled in the manner the Witnesses claim, That is another matter entirely.

    Caedas,

To get back to my original comment about WW1. I was trying to point out that the specific date of 1914 as a prophecy is meaningless ,granted the war was declared then but it wasn't until the close of that year did things start to get very bad( an understatement). All I meant to say was that it widened in area by the Americans coming to the rescue in 1917.I am just asking the question was it truly world wide until then, it's all about words and definition.

I know the argument the Witnesses use is nation shall rise against nation and that didn't happen until WW1 and this is what we were told to preach from door to door but I have heard more educated people than I say that WW1 was Europes civil war. I was trying to compare it with the American Civil War but only in 1914 not necessarily after that date. I have also heard say that the years in between the two world wars was just a cease fire ,if that is the case the war didn't end in 1918.It all boils down to the fact that dates don't mean a thing when you look at the bigger picture.

Ah, but in his foreword to the 1916 edition of that work, the last he commissioned before he died, he did have the moxy to admit he'd been wrong. That makes him better than the current crop of JW leaders in my book.
