Jeff,
Thanks for posting that. There is truth in that pic. I personally do not like "organized" religion. I think it does a disservice to God's Holy Spirit by keeping it from really working in people. Most Christians are content with going to church, hearing a talk or sermon preached at them and then going home to just live their "normal" lives again until the next week.
It is Holy Spirit that is suposed to teach Christians. Not that it is wrong to have an elder, pastor or priest teach you. But many Christians today have a complacent attitude about things. And they love to sit in church and be fed and served spiritually by those taking the lead. This is in contradiction to the early church where all Christians taught, preached and upbuit each others faith. (iron sharpens iron)
Because of this complacency, Christianity has lost its impact it once had. We (Christians) are supposed to be the "light of the world", what are WE personally doing to accomplish this? Also how are WE personally serving others as Ambassadors for Christ? These are Q's all Christians must ask themselves. And if we do not feel the Holy Spirit moving us to do good for others and in our community, then we may need a Holy Spirit adjustment. Peace, Lilly
Wow
erm whats the difference between someone getting dressed in there best clothes and driving past homeless going to church etc and someone getting dressed in their best togs driving past homeless and say going to a ball game, bar, Casino etc complacency over poverty is a disease of society I would not say just perculiar to religion.
I think the difference is Christianity tells you that helping people like this is more important then meeting at places and boasting about how bad or good you are. At a bar/ballgame/work your not being guilt tripped in to giving away your money....errr I mean raising your faith.
None of those other places tell you that you should be compassionate to all those people of hopelessness.
I don't interpret this as an anti-christian polemic.
To me it is an admonition to live your faith.
Mark 9:36, 37, 41: He took a little child and had him stand among them. Taking him in his arms, he said to them, "Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.

I guess to me the diff is: The righteous are on the way to learn righteousness while ignoring what righteousness should be doing all the time. Jesus and company had a money box - to feed the poor. Christians often do just what was stated here - get in the $40,000 SUV, wearing hundreds of dollars worth of threads, go look pious for an hour or two, get back in the SUV and head to the $500,000 house in the hill that is loaded with security to keep out the poor. My preference is generally to read this forum (it is often relevant to talking with some active JW's whom I often meet with) but not comment much. Yet...
Certainly everyone in rich America could be more generous. However, even if all the "religious" people in America gave up all they had, the poor would be with us still. The fact is that America is the most altruistic nation on the planet, giving more in overseas food, clothing, and charity than any other country. "Religion" is the key determing factor (according to NBC News) in identifying the largest cumulative donor groups to charity. Up until recent years, almost all hospitals were relgion-founded (e.g. Saint Lukes, Saint Vincents, Methodist Hospital, etc.). I am not so down on "religious" types helping others. I wonder why non-religious types are given a free pass?
Jeff: Reading this thread made me think about the book by Sheldon called "In his steps" In the book, a homeless man goes to several people in a town looking for a Job, home and help in general and gets none. He finaly goes to the Church on Sunday and stands up and confronts the audience and tells them off about not being like Jesus, which leads to the whole church or most of them living different lives. It's an interesting book and concept. The book was the founding place of the popular phrase "What would Jesus do" The book is available for free online. To me the poster would be more effective without the profanity, but still it make a valid point. seek2find Of the official "no longer a Jehovah's Witness" class
