    My votes:

The Best: As a group they're relatively color-blind (low to no incidence of racism among them ).
The Worst: Their stubborn refusal to see the good in anyone but themselves!
    What say you?

I think your "best" trait is a sweeping generalization. I've been to several congregations where color was ALWAYS an issue.

I was recently at a funeral for an Uncle, who was a JW ministerial servant. After the funeral, some of us went for coffee. One of the sisters, long time sis, told a brother (now an elder) that she wanted him to put a good word in for her. Not knowing what she was talking about, he inquired and she asked him to make sure that when she gets to Paradise, after the big A of course, she wanted to be in the vanilla neighborhood! No choclate for me please! (her words, not mine)

He still looked dumbfounded and she clarified her racist view. He and his wife agreed that being in a "vanilla" paradise, would be better than a "choclate" one.

This is not the most positive trait to exhibit. Especially talking about paradise. The fact she thinks she will get there is even funnier.

This was in the Elmwood Park neighborhood of Chicago. An Italian strong hold. If you are not a catholic, you are JW.

I didn't see much of the "color-blindness" either. I saw a lot of two-faced sisters (including my mother)who talked one way to their black sisters at the KH, then talked "about" them at home.
In our small southern congregation (Andrews/Georgetown) there were few whites. And they stuck together. We even had a "special talk", where the black brothers were told not to go to the door with a white sister. But, it was okay for a white brother to go to the door with a black sister.
And when I decided to marry a black man, I got the "speech" about what would happen to my kids! And how hard it would be to "live" together in the south. And shouldn't I reconsider??? One brother even asked me why I couldn't find a nice, white brother to marry?

So, I'm still trying to think of a "best" quality. May take some time.....

I think the race issue is simply swept under the rug like all other issues to make the JW's look better to the public. I however found that even though the JW line is to preach that race is not looked upon by god, the general rank and file JW member was as prone to racism as any other non-JW person. Namely, most people were either mildly to very racist. I have found that there seem to be just as many non-racist people outside the JW org as there are inside (percentage-wise). I think it has more to do with upbringing than religion ...

    Hey Yall,

I think that you all are forgetting about the punishment.
If anyone shows a sign of prejudice it would mean that he hated his brother and also mean that he would infect others. A person like that could not hold a position in the congregation. He would definetly be removed from the congregation if he did not change.
That is why he have to keep it inside and in the dark. He becomes so good at his performance of loving his brother of another race, even inviting them out socially from time to time, working in the same car group and going to certain houses that will not cause an upset with the householder and making sure that he identifies a sister of another race as definetly not my wife or fiance' but as a fellow member in christ. He makes sure to teach his children to only marry a brother or sister of another race in the New world because it would pose so many problems now.
He loves all of his brothers. Yeh, right!

anyone who has been to a meeting in western PA (KKK land) knows that this is not the case. the JW's there are so racist that I said something to a few of them. JWs are NOT colorblind. thats a myth.

    Thanks contributors (you too, Fred)

Your comments on racism are for me an eye-opener, although I did notice som e lements of what puffsrule are reminiscent of my experiences in Bensonhurst< Brooklyn.
What astonished me is that in the 1950s, the Society actually sanctioned segregated congregations in the south. I suppose it was to head off KH burnings or violence, but it struck me as something of a sell-out or caving in (``compromise'' if you will), and in contrast to some of the high-sounding rhetoric in the literature and from the podium. I now regret that this hadn't deterred me from ``progressing in the truth;'' I would have been much better off.
