Compaq and Watchtower Bible & Tract Society of New York Ð A Success Story...
The year 2000 saw dynamic growth in E&IÕs Compaq contract, racking up
some $35 million in sales, which is up from $23 million in the previous year.
As we acknowledge this tremendous growth, it is also important to recognize
all of those members whose participation made it possible. One of E&IÕs great
success stories of 2000 is the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New
York, which accounts for nearly $1.5 million in Compaq purchases.
Watchtower is a legal organization in use by the JehovahÕs Witnesses, whose
governing body is headquartered in Brooklyn, New York. Watchtower created
and maintains an extensive administrative network for its 109 branch offices,
with advanced computing capability built on a strong Compaq platform. In
2000 alone, Watchtower either added or upgraded nearly 50 file servers (Proliant
1600 and ML370 models) and over 1400 desktop systems (Deskpro EP
models).
Additional hardware procurement featured the Compaq Professional Series of multi-processor workstations, Smart Arrays and DLT backup tape
drives, totaling a staggering one terabyte of storage capacity!
In addition to the aggressive standard discounts provided by the E&I/Compaq Contract Ñ 12% for Desktops, Portables and Workstations, and
15% for Servers and Options Ñ Watchtower has saved thousands of dollars by exercising the optional volume discount. Through strategic
planning and product standardization, WatchtowerÕs knowledgeable purchasing team places Òlarge volumeÓ orders of 100 or more units with
either E&IÕs Information Technology Specialist, Elie Saade, or Jeff Sloane, CompaqÕs Senior Account Manager for the New York Metropolitan
Area. These purchase orders are then submitted to Compaq, and reviewed for special discount opportunities. As noted in E&IÕs Desktop Index,
ÒLarge quantity requirements may qualify for greater discounts.Ó
WatchtowerÕs purchasing team takes advantage of this program whenever possible and demonstrates the effectiveness of a centralized staff of
well-informed purchasing professionals. While these volume orders must be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, your dedicated E&I IT Specialist
and local Compaq Account Manager are always available to ensure that you receive the best possible prices, maximum savings and prompt
delivery.
The Cooperative would like to thank Watchtower for its contribution to the great success
and continued reinforcement of the E&I/Compaq partnership.
