I love love and so many songs I like are from half a century ago and onwards and I even sing a few if you care to share a bath with me!

I have always liked the early sixties surf music like The Beach Boys, Jan and Dean and The local boys from Seattle, The Ventures

You don't need a huge stack of drums, just beat the hell out of a couple of them.

I sure do. I am a child of 1962 and I grew up listening to big band music from the 40s, country music from the 50s, and of course doo wop and rock from the 50s. Now I listen to stuff from this new generation too, like Rob Zombie!

I remember in high school, listening to bands like Zeppelin, The Who, The Eagles, The Stones, pretty much anything from the 60's and 70's. Meanwhile my classmates were listening to hair bands and pop. I didn't start enjoying modern music until years later. I still prefer the classics, though.

    karvel: "Arthur Lyman"

OK, I'm a cross between Delilah and Leolaia, but one of my all-time favorite albums is Arthur Lyman's "Taboo". I have a 1958 vinyl copy that I've transferred to MP3, and hear each pop and hiss as part of the music now...just checked on Amazon, had no idea it'd been released to CD!

I enjoy various forms of music from other generations, but I like modern stuff too. One of my favorites that come to mind from another generation is Cab Calloway. His voice was so smooth, and I love that scatting. Plus, he was just so darn sexy!

One of my favorite clips of him: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LWtHeJPgbXo

Then, I'd turn the tables on them and point out to them how many "new" songs were just rip-offs of old songs. If the "new" artists are listening to the old stuff to get "new" material, what's wrong with going straight to the source and hearing it yourself?

So true! I don't know how many rappers *sampled* "Wind Parade" by Donald Byrd.

    Comments:

Jewel used this beat also on the Above The Rim soundtrack song Its Not Deep Enough.

the beat is used for "buck 'em down" by black moon, its also a good song

So this is what 2pac sampled for Late Nite.
    Nice

black moon used it first http://youtube.com/watch?v=PHxoswZfpGc
