so around here I often see a stretch hummer. I think that's going pretty far in the direction of ridiculous ostentation. A stretch SUV is bad enough.
any other examples of ridiculous ostentation? of course in our area, there are dozens. This is the world capital of pretension.

I see ads at the top of web pages where you can "rent" a handbag, such as a Coach. Oh, please. It's a purse.
Around here... you can get a hummer for about $20 (so I've heard). Even less at a truck stop. Not that I have ever partaken. I imagine a "stretch" hummer might cost a couple bucks more :)

Being that this is a JW form, I might expect you know not whereof :) However I remember reading somewhere' of the WT going into some detail thereof.

As for ostentation - let me described the Palm Springs "look." That is, the look of much-operated-upon women who are the aging trophy wives of really old trophy guys. I was stunned to see this when I first moved here: straw hat with gold scarf around it, loads of heavy gold jewelry, plasticly smooth face, wrinkled neck, white sleeveless shirt and white golf shorts, with a gold patent leather belt. Gold sandals, wrinkled legs, pedicure. Gold purse. They ALL dress like that!
