What was the first album you ever bought? And what form did it come in?

  I bought a cassette of the Bee Gees' Spirits Having Flown (which lasted maybe two months before it became unusable). I Also bought the tape of Saturday Night Fever.

  On vinyl, the first albums I bought (at a flea market) were Billy Joel's 52nd Street and Kool & the Gang's Ladies Night. I got a vinyl copy of Elton John's first Greatest Hits LP as a Christmas gift in 1974, and wore that thing out inside of a few months.

  The first CDs I bought were from BMG. I bought James Ingram's It's Real, Seals & Crofts greatest, and James Taylor's greatest among numerous others (you have to take a whole bunch of them at once upon joining). No rap back then (I was still in the Wactower--and did not have enough CDs to hide any obviously filthy songs).

  Very first was Heartbeat City by The Cars, on cassette. Cassette tapes were all I ever had until CDs came out. Even then it was a slow transition.

  KISS Destroyer. A few weeks later my mom found it and threw it out. And of course I got the demonism lecture yada-yada blah-blah. I bought it again but put it inside the Beach Boys - Pet Sounds jacket.

  Mine was also the Beatles on vinyl, I assume it was the one mentioned. I was in the first grade and begged for it. I had been watching their appearances on the Ed Sullivan Show since kindergarten. I knew the words to every song. It seems like the poster of them I had on my bedroom door came in one of the albums but I can't remember.

  keyser....Cool, Heartbeat City is the fourth album I ever got (on cassette). First, Wham! and the Jacksons, then Michael Jackson's Thriller, then the Cars, then Weird Al's In 3-D, then Hall and Oates' Big Bam Boom, then John Fogerty's Centerfield. Then it was all of Duran Duran's albums on CD, then I think it was Tears for Fears' Songs From the Big Chair on cassette, then Depeche Mode, and then I started getting so many albums I can't remember exactly what came next.

  Interesting how releases from 1983-1984 are prominent in this list so far...Men at Work, Madonna, the Cars, Wham!, the Jacksons....

  I can't find a picture of it. It was "The Ventures in Space" on vinyl. Their bass player lived a couple of blocks from my house.

  I will go with you Jeff, my second album was Boston. Both KISS Destroyer and "Boston" came out in 76' and I was twelve. I had to mow alot of lawns to afford those $12 vinyl LP's.

  I remember listening to my parent's Hawaii Five-O album. Love them drums!
