Ever since I was small. And if there isn't a catchy tune I'm stuck on, it always goes back to "Greensleeves." It plays in my head 24/7 and I'm never sick of it.

to hum (third-person singular simple present hums, present participle humming, simple past and past participle hummed)

    1. To make a sound from the vocal chords without pronouncing any real words, with one's lips closed.
    2. (UK): To smell bad.

if you mean the UK version.....the answer is....yep.........smelly ninja

I do hum and rather often too. No particular tune, just make it up as I hum along. It's usually when I'm happy, or even if I'm trying to calm myself down, when I'm busy I hum to myself.

I don't hum by either definition - er well maybe sometimes the UK version, not that anyone would dare to tell me that I do

my youngest kid is a budding musician so i catch myself ( or slef if ewe purfur) humming the songs i hear over........... and over.............. and over as the lyrics are worked out or the chords are tweaked...... esp doing the mundane things like loading the dishwasher or folding laundry ( i told her that is how i know her songs are good because they get in your head and stay there)

I think it is really a soothing or calming function we do and I think it is a form of unconscious communication.

The most interesting part is realizing that in other countries, there's a different connotation with the word. I love linguistics.
