Congrats, it is such a hard thing to do for many. I recall reading an article about all
the chemicals in the cigarette that keep the addiction high to them.

I smoked till I was 20 then quit cold turkey, my father passed away from lung cancer
quite a few years ago. And my moms cancer she was told by her surgeon was from second hand smoke.

Smokes are 12.00 a pkg here, I would like to think of all the money a person could have if you
put it all in a jar for a month, one terrific holiday, 12 bucks x1 x7 x30 is a lot let alone
    three pkgs a day.

    Cheers to you,

Your situation sounds very similar to mine, started quickly after leaving the Borg, possibly out of rebellion and a little out of exploring the don't.

Continued smoking for 10 years after that, then it came apparent that it was ruining my health and others reasons so decided to quit cold turkey.

Well maybe not stopping abruptly, better to call it a weaning off maybe.

The health benefits are obvious, nothing around me stinks any more , home ,car, cloths whatever and my wallet looks allot better too.

So good health to you and if anyone is having a problem quiting just keep on thinking what a terrible malodorous smell that smoke is ....... Rid the skank for you and everyone

    Peace to you!

I came to realize smoking had me under control. I didnt have it under control. I dont like being told what to do especially by inanimate objects. So I quit.

I quit, many, many years ago, after 11 years, for exactly the same reason... and exactly the same way. Haven't touched a smoke since (well, not a cigarette, anyway. Stopped the other stuff very shortly after, but did once again a few years ago to help a very dear and good friend out - she had a medical reason for it and didn't want to do it alone the first time - and what are friends for? There is no law against love. And, besides, I grew up during the 60s-70s, so whadya want?)

Anyway, bravo! I know it was hard.

    Again, peace to you.

Thanks IP for posting this. I have tried to quit many times. Patches, cold turkey, etc. Started because it was the rebellion thing. I want to be finished smoking by my 49th birthday. Am working up to it.

Just a warning....I quit for 5 years and in a moment of weakness took a drag.....I was back to a pack and a half a day within 48 hours. Never, never let down your guard.

Its been almost 20 years since then. I don't smoke in the house, in my car, in restaurants, etc. Patches wound up being great for long overseas flights. They work for the first 24 hours and then are useless for me.......its the coffee, wine, telephone, time alone connection.

    So I'm working on this.

Congrats to you......I hope to be successful too by June 20th.

    Thanks again,

    r.

Restrangled, a continuing education course I went to, the Dr. putting it on, said that the patches don't work as well on women, as it does on men. Something about hormones etc. I had tried the patch years ago also, and found it didn't work very well for me.
