    Deputy dog,

Does your lack of belief in Thor presuppose that he exists?

You could say I start with the presupposition that a god named Thor does not exist. But, I don't call my self an athorist.

No, you know he doesn't exist because there is no evidence to prove he does.

I don't know that he doesn't exist. I just don't "believe" that he does.

I say welcome to a fellow atheist!

what are you 12 years old? My god is bigger than your god?! Pathetic. Do have any clue just how stupid that makes you sound? It's nice to see a really respectful attitude to a fellow theist simply because his choice of deity differs from yours.

no, i was just commenting to gladiator about what he said. I dont think this is stupid but its true.

I dont respect false gods because i dont have to

Well, the problem you have, is, I'm a theist that doesn't believe in Thor. As theist the believer in Thor and I believe in God, or at least a God.

You and I, seem to agree atheism is a "belief" or a belief system.

Real One: Gladiator I believe in the trinity God the Father, the son Jesus Christ and The Holy Spirit, any one of these Gods can take care of all of your gods with one breath.

Caedes, in all fairness to Real One I did challenge his Gods to fight it out with mine in the arena. I though at first that he had only one God but now it turns out he has three. How many more is he hiding under his robe? My understanding is that he he only has one God which he had given three names in an attempt to match my many Gods. I was deeply hurt when he called my Gods false and had to restrain my self from unsheathing my Gladius. This God thing is complicated. No wonder it leads to mental illness!

I have no problem at all, I understand that not believing in something cannot be called a belief or a belief system by definition. If you wish to use your own definition then you are entirely free to do so.

At last something we can agree on, I take it you have no problem with me calling your gods false.

    The gladiator

Now that I would pay good money for, can I put a fiver on Mars to win?

I think you should keep your gladius in it's scabbard, otherwise we'll have ladies swooning everywhere.

Mentall illness is a huge umbrella of terms. Have you been depressed? Well that's a mental illness. Have you had a cold? Well that's a physical illness.

There are levels, extremes, long term, short term, etc...to take on such a huge subject matter, there needs to be qualifications, because qualifying your statements so they are not misunderstood is important.

Does anyone remember some years ago when there was a group of people who believed they were a part of some cult that were to meet a mother ship of some kind (forgive me, I don't have the full record, in front of me), who got rid of their sexual parts, and then took poison based on the alert of some star around the sun?

There is something called mass hysteria, mass delusions, group dynamic studies show how people can be molded by distorted ideas and ideology and lead to irrational ideas about oneself and others.

In religion, it is very likely that people can be influenced to think irrationally based on unfounded and unqualified things which can lead to distorted behavior and distorted views. It is not an absolute, one has to learn to separate the levels of mental illness and underestand exactly what someone is saying.

I fear that whenever people discuss mental illness they relie solely on extremes such a schizoprenia, severe paranoia, etc when in actually people may have a bout of mental illness, get treatement and move on. I would continue but I am in the middle of something, but I wanted to contribute to this topic.

How is what I posted any different from your own? Can you come up with anything other then reflexive antireligious antitheism? It's getting a bit boring now.

Sorry if your bored. You asserted that "religious belief" could be a sign of mental illness. I agreed that it could, if we could include atheism. History and statistics seem to show that theist out number atheist by more than 10 to 1. So let me ask you, in the atheist world view, if survival of the fittest rules, who's the fittest? Who is doing the best job of surviving?
