Do we have a need for conflict?

Seems like the more contentious discussions on the board just go around and around the same tree.

Those who have faith in God are delusional, simple minded, or even mentally ill...?

Those who don't believe in God are narrow minded, 2 dimensional, and are missing out on something great...?

Democrats, Republicans.....both sides just don't understand the issues.

Beware of those with two user names who post from the same IP address.....woah to you!

Let us not forget the men vs women topics....women always win. (why is that?)

I'm not complaining, just wondering, do we love conflict? Or, do we need it?

It seems unlikely to me that people love conflict. I suspect there is another motive underlying it.

People like to be right, and like other people to see that they are right. Without someone wrong to compare against, it's hard to see just how right they are. Maybe that plays into it? Conflict, as a necessary evil to display a person's right-ness?

Or the less-arrogant version -- a desire to correct those that are wrong, ostensibly for their good.

What -- you think I'm wrong? You wanna fight about it?! ;-)

Apparently, unless we can live in the absolute now - prescense of deeper self awareness - each of us are controlled by pain bodies we have accumulated over a lifetime!

And all pain bodies feed off pain = conflict or negatives!

everyone has an opinion and most believe "they" are right and a lot of us like debating. Sometimes the big words they use and all the copy paste posting that goes on really irks me though.

Well I can see a reference to my last topic in there but to be fair I never accused believers of being mentally ill, actually I denied that twice. As for your question, I'm not sure we all agree what 'conflict' is.

I'm Greek and from a family that will debate mercilessly but always be able to hug each other before we all go home. What some call conflict we might call a decent chat!

But I get your point.

My gran had many a wise proverb:

'If there were no evil women there'd be no evil men'

And women smell far more than men but men never know it coz their senses aren't so well evolved - which is why women always win the 'you smell more than me' conflicts.

And so it goes.........
