Just a wild guess, but might there be something in the Quran that could be interpreted as linking stone monuments with Adam and Eve. I know there was a Jewish tradition about their son Seth raising stone and brick pillars that was mentioned in Josephus. Other than that, I can't imagine the faintest reason why the tourist board would make such a loony claim.
