Perhaps a year from now they'll announce a new arrangement and a new meeting for Thursday nights (or Tuesdays)?

So in January, 2009, meetings altogether will be 1 hour & 15 minutes shorter than
they were in December 2007. (There was the 15 minutes reduction in Public Talks.)

That's a good start. I could see them reduce Circuit Assemblies to one day to get
by with fewer Assembly Halls, because Saturday and Sunday would cover two
circuits. I could see Friday sessions of the District Convention done away with in
2009 or 2010, and they will see if they get the same amount of profit from a two-day
Convention before announcing that it's permanent.

Someone called me from a SAD to give me the news. They read the letter that sounded very similar to the one posted. Kudos on the scoop!

The reaction this person gave was very happy to have an extra night off. The person said (half joking) that maybe in a couple of years, we'll be down to just the Sunday meeting!! No outward questioning or disappointment in the least. Of course, this is only feedback from one person.

OTWO, I completely agree with you on the District Conventions. The Friday attendance has been low for several years and I would bet they can make just as much money with a large 2 day as opposed to a 3 day. And, they could have them at assembly halls (as they are doing in the NYC area now and with some foreign language districts) so they can make a bigger profit.

I think if you mention it as an idea of your own before the meeting, they would say its a horrible idea since bookstudy is the best meeting of the week. But after "the man" says it - they will think it's a great idea.

OTWO, you have it right. It's all about the money.

Like any business they need to balance how much or how little they can require from the R&F members AND still make the most profit.

They seem to be tinkering with their formula in order to increase membership and maximize profit. Or they may wish to maintain only a hardcore following of dubs and see how profitable that can be.

If they can get the same cashflow from a 2 day convention and 2 1-day assemblies they'll increase their profits quite a bit. (keeping in mind that they must maintain mental control over their members so Sunday only worship probably wouldn't work).

I wouldn't be surprised if at some point they start pushing how good and helpful the tithing system in Israel was. I'd say it would never be mandatory but I can see it being recommended. It could turn into a prestige thing. "I give 8%" or "I give 10%, how about you?" - something like that.

If you're supposed to use the free night for a family study and you have a disbelieving mate how will that work?

I'll bet further clarification will come to the body of elders that instructs them to follow up more on families to ensure that the night is being used as an at home worship night.
