News Flash! Letter from Governing Body announcing meeting schedule changes

  The watchtower meeting (This congregation meets on Sat) that I just listened to via phone conference was cut 10 minutes short to have a letter read to all the congregation. Here are the highlights:

  - The governing body realizes that the pressures of this system of things are getting heavier on his people.

  - Just like the governing body of the 1st century, we do not want to add additional burden to YOU either

  - Burdens such as the cost of oil worldwide and also lack of attention to our families

  - Some of our fellow brothers and sisters have left the truth

  - Some families are known to come unprepared to the meetings and also not having time for a family study either. The following arrangement should fix those two issues.

  - Therefore, the governing body has decided to rearrange the meeting scheduled as follows

  - As of January 1st 2007, the book study will be called the congregation study and will be held in the same night as the theocratic school.

  - This congregation study will last 25 minutes, followed with 35 mins of theocratic school and 30 mins service meeting. The entire meeting should last 1 hour and 45 minutes.

  So, the recent study that JW children have the highest attrition rate....HIT HARD....on the Governing Body.

  Perhaps if the WTS had more room for individual thought, intelligent articles, and allowed for advacned schooling.....the attrition rate would go down.

  The book study is OBSOLETE they have not had a publication of any substance for decades that's why they have had to rehash old publications over and over again...it is the least attended meeting to begin with why continue with it...the light is slowly being extinguished and they know it...

  We can learn so many of these important things from newbies.

  It's all about the books. They don't want to print so many books.
  Now, they will have a single run of 7 or 8 million books whenever
  they feel it's time for a new one, and they won't ever offer it in the
  field. They will print less and offer tracts.

  They care for the members so much. Why are they continuing the
  burden for the rest of the year, though?

  You might find this difficult to believe Flying High but in all my 28 years on the in I was served refreshments (cake etc) once...

  ALL the above posters made sense, but I believe that the LACK of "stirring and urgent" information in the form of new books has caused the ultimate downfall of the cozy home bookstudy. When you begin to hear audible groans when the "new" publication is to be studied (AGAIN) it's time to hang it up.

  When the WTS "then decides" to tack on these boring and rehashed books by incorporating it into a pre-existing meeting....it shows evidence of desperation and MORE control than ever.
