.. and not just quickly executed with a sword.

Their answer is, "Jehovah to show that a perfect person can withstand temptation under the harshest circumstances thereby proving that Adam was not under undue duress when he took the fateful decision to follow Lucifer".

So the more that Christ was tortured and resisted the more this statement must be true.
What could be more diabolical than having 8 inch nails hammered through your ancle and rist bones that was preceeded by a battering.

The logic that a loving God would allow torturing to death a person for the sake of others as the only solution to the Devils challenge is ludicrous.

THis explanation is not particular to JWs though.

And it is a blatant lie. From what I have seen about Jesus' teachings after the bias from former religions has been lifted, Jesus did a liberating work and lambasted the religious leaders that were trying to maintain bicameral leader/follower mentality. Jesus wanted people to be their own God. That clearly explains the scripture about the Kingdom of God is in your heart far more clearly than the Filthful and Disgraceful Slavebugger. Jesus was tortured because he was threatening the religious leaders' power.

Interestingly, Satan did a liberating work as well. Satan wanted people to be their own God, free from the potential that Satan saw in God to become oppressive. Of course, the Bible is thorough at bashing Satan for this "wicked" act of going beyond the call of duty and freeing man from God's tyranny. So far, Satan was not tortured (he is being unduly bashed, however).

That's a strange idea linking Jesus and Adam in that way and let's not forget it comes from people who, unlike genuine christians, seem to believe that jehovah rather than Jesus is the saviour of mankind.

Jesus had to suffer in order to break the kingdom of the devil, put to death the mosaic law, liberate mankind and set an example to his future followers in the matter of unselfish love.

My take on Jesus horrific death is that he was to die like a lamb. Swiftly and with little or no suffering, however Satan abused the situation and tried to break Him. Adam was not tortured into sin, so in order to make the eye for an eye theory go, the pain was an added cruelty not from God the Father but from the father of the lie.

Why Jesus was tortured to death and not just quickly executed with a sword?

It was done by totally depraved mankind.
