What you do is highlight and copy the text you wish to include in the quote box, and then paste it into the reply -- and THEN in the area above the reply box you'll see a smiley face and a balloon -- highlight the quote (that you want boxed in) and then click on the balloon.

Press reply. Paste the text.
Highlight it again and select the white baloon next to the yellow funyface in the tool bar. Iit will make the selected text show as:
