It has a lot to do with their devious minds (the GB). As an old JW lady used to say about the people in the world "their minds are as TWISTED as their STREETS "(said with a little vicious twist to the words.) The GB is so used to manipulation, and slanting, and twisting things to appear in the best light, they just couldn't bring themselves to say the simplest thing: we know life is busier nowadays and it's hard to get to meetings, so we'll cut down on the meetings so you have more time for your family and other needs. Nope, it has to be SATAN (hiss a little when you say that) making the gas prices go UP, just to persecute Jeeehovah's Witnesses. And here all the time I thought it was the dollar going down because Bush is an asshole. So all the JWs in the world, many of whom have been paying these prices for years, get a reprieve because American JWs can't afford the gas to get to all the meetings. OK, I'm done now. How about those roses? It's planting time in much of the world - but here it's almost too late. Up in the high 90s now - I miss rose bushes. Anybody out there have a climbing Cecile Brunner? I always liked that little pink rose, thousands of them, about the size of a little fingernail, on the rose vine that covered the front of the house I sold last year.

This new arrangement is "nectar from the Gods."
Anyway.....on the roses thing. I am considering starting a rose garden. I live in the Northwest of the US. Any suggestions for a rose neophyte?

You're right, Hortensia,
Why couldn't they just admit they are setting the treadmill down to fast trot instead of Olympic relay speed?

You got it, Dinah. They just couldn't say the plain and simple truth to save their lives.
Watson, if you live in the Northwest, can you go visit the Jackson and Perkins rose gardens in Oregon? Medford, I think. Or visit the wonderful rose garden in Portland. You can see colors you like and smell the roses, and find out what does well in your area. If you ever come down to southern California, you ought to go look at the Huntington Library - they have a large and beautiful rose garden.
The classics that seem to do well anywhere, and are really pretty, are Peace, Queen Elizabeth, John F. Kennedy, and Abraham Lincoln. I also like the look of the David Austin roses, cup shaped, quartered and rather bosomy instead of the neater more pointed buds and spiral blooms of other roses. The main thing is to remember they like sunshine - at least six hours a day = so don't plant them in an area that is too shady. And then prune aggressively when they are dormant.
That's my little bit of rose knowledge. I just love roses. So many pretty ones. Some of the old roses have the most wonderful smell.

If you're saying that GW is responsible for the rise in gas then you might as well say the devil .I'm going to have to give them cudos on that one.

thanks for the rose - it looks like one of those lovely David Austin roses. And thanks for the quote from Wodehouse - I loved all those books - read them all years ago. Bertie Wooster...what a laugh. I always got such a kick out of that older pioneer sister who said that about their minds being as twisted as their streets. She didn't like the new housing developments in San Diego with cul-de-sacs and winding roads and thought it was proof that demons controlled the designers.

RE: 'special announcement'
I still think that it has something to do with money - or legal issues. Any changes in the recent history have mostly been done for some IRS or legal issue. This might also explain the name change - to use the roed 'bible'.
Anyway...
"I miss rose bushes. Anybody out there have a climbing Cecile Brunner? "
I don't know what those are, but a couple of years ago, I put a rose bush in the ground where I live... it has taken off. Not only that, I had given my then girlfriend (now wife) a second rosebush - same type. We planted that one too - after a month or so. It has taken off.
Lastly - I bought a yellow rose bush - and also planted it. It - being so close to the red roses, occassionally takes on a reddish hue in its' yellow roses. They are all just gorgeous.
The red rose bushs have become trees - their main trunk very woody and large. My wife trims them back - to keep them from encroaching on our walkways, and front porch - but they always come back.
They seem to bloom year round - even in the winter months.

Maybe not, but we are damn close.
You have a good point. I remember when disco faided away. A DO at a convention noted that the reason that disco failed was because Satan realized that he could not use this as a tool to deceive the brothers.
Let me extend this thinking to our current situation. The reason we have high gas prices is because Satan is trying to make it hard on the brothers and sisters. Now that the gb has responded we can expect low gas prices because this is a tool that will no longer work.

I soo agree with that statement... would it really kill them to just be up front and plain about it.... shhheeeeshhh.
As for the roses, I know what you are talking about, on the tiny ones... so beautiful.
I bought my house 25 years ago and there is a pitiful rose bush on the north side, the previous owners told me it's over 50 years old.
They said it's called "Old Fashioned"... I know nothing about roses, so assume they are right... ???
Yippee... I finally learned how to do pics... (happy dance)...lol
