I saw this story on the news this morning. Muslims in India apparently drop their babies from a 50 foot tall temple tower for good luck. I can't imagine doing that, I don't know ANYONE that would do that, and I am sure that in the USA child protective agencies would swoop down on anyone doing such a thing. Video link below from Sky News.

What bothers me more than this is how the jw religion forces its adherents to do far worse to their kids. They raise them in a very restricted, brainwashed environment that teaches them that obeying the gb is all there is to life. Even worse is denying them medical treatment like needed blood to save them. That is even riskier than dropping babies from a tower. At least the Muslims hold out a bedspread to catch the kids!!

    Michael Jackson does that.

I wonder how many times the babies land funny on the bedspread and break something! That's scary.

I have a little sweet 15 month old baby girl Delanie. When she falls hard by herself my heart skips a beat naturally as a mother. I couldn't imagine the mothers feeling nothing when this happens???

We did this with FOSHL, and so far we've had really good luck with her.

Well, it makes sense. If the kid survives that, he's pretty damned lucky! ;-)

Women who do crack, cocaine, heroin and/or heavy alcohol while pregnant. But they do it.

500 years and not one baby lost. 25 years and how many fetal alcoholics, crack babies, etc.?

"We" frown on "them" as a a very old, need-to-leave-all-those-ancient-and-inexplicable-traditions-behind-and-come-into-the-future-already society and culture, while "we" tout "ourselves" as the progressive-up-and-coming-very-technologically-savvy-and-so-everyone-should-be-like-us society and culture.

Given the stats on their tradition... and our foster care system... I'm a thinkin' "we" should put it all in a different... and accurate... perspective.

    I bid you all peace.

The incidence of maternal drug and alcohol abuse in the Western world is tragic, but it is a separate and parallel issue.

In my mind, it is not hypocritical for the world community to be in an uproar over this tradition of dropping babies. The babies scream out of fear. This is naturally abhorrent to anyone who cares about children. It is a relic of an old superstition that seriously needs to be stopped. Just think, the people who originally started this tradition of dropping babies themselves were not dropped. (Someone thought up this crazy idea.)

There are child-treatment issues (call them rafters or straws) to be dealt with in both eastern and western cultures.
