Apparently so was everyone else. There was this 2 or 3 minute complete silence where everyone just sat there.
Nobody moved or said anything, not even the conductor.

That sounds just plain SURREAL ! Hypnotic, maybe? I remember the last meeting I attended a couple of years ago out of courtesy to an elderly JW lady that specially invited me. It was spooky....all the painted-on smiles as they lovebombed me, the nodding of the head in complete synchronicity, the vacant eyes, the few robotic children in their black dress pants and white shirts, and the rote reading and scripted talk. The feeling was eery like being at a cult meeting.

One theory is that these meetings are a kind of group hypnosis. The same things are said over and over, and it induces mental drowsiness. Then they can drop in suggestions and ideas about what they want you to do for them (more, more, more) or how you should view something.

This is true. As a former elder, I could see that all the 30 somthing and younger have no clue what is going on, they just go through the motions. their friends are there and that's all they care about they sit like they did when they were little and when the meetings over they can visit with their friends. Often when we (a JC) talked to some of the younger ones, they had no Idea what the GB said about different things like what pornea was etc. etc. They have been sucessfully dumbed down so they can be controlled.

Tired of the Hypocrisy

Ever wonder why food is always the same at any McDonald's you may visit? Because the corporate stores and the franchise stores are NOT allowed to deviate from the recipe. The jw's really pat themeselbves on the back for offering food at the proper time. It may be food, but after sitting under a warming lamp over the past 70 years and no change to the recipe makes for a stale and boring lunch!

Because they are run by boring people who act like robots, I could never get used to them even though I tried.

They aren't trained well in how to give public speeches like the preachers in other religions. They've had that professional speaking training and are good!
