    A stupid book written by Old Men at Bethel....N.R.C {not recommended for children}

    A rather poor example of a children's book...I wouldn't recommend it for anyone's children.

I found this review of the book online:

1 of 3 people found the following review helpful: 5.0 out of 5 starsawesome violence and gore! scare children you love into therapy!, November 15, 2005 By Matty this is the jehovah's witness' idea of a book for children, god bless them! i personally dislike children at this point in my life, so i totally recommend it. it includes graphic pictures of human suffering, violence, and a crucifixion scene that would make even a catholic blush. the author was not shy about underscoring the wrath of the angry judeo-christian god. one of my favorite illustrations depicts normal people like you and me (including children!) being slain by an unforgiving god with a quote from corinthians: "jehovah will destroy the bad ones who do not change".

this beautiful book was given to me when i was a wee lad of 5 by neighbors who were j.w.'s. i was more mesmerized by its gore than that which dripped from gene simmons on my kiss album covers. i'm replacing my copy! a+

Hi mrsJones sorry I took so long to reply, complicated busy life,

Well you are right there are lots of bible story books available from internet or from christian stores, in my defence though they are hard to find in regular shops I found one book going through my local town.

A few on this thread are condemning it because of the violence gore etc but I would ask them, would you allow your child to see/read harry potter books or movies and or golden compass books or movies and or narnia books or movies? (there are scenes of torture in golden compass that actually shocked me)

These all have violence and death as strong themes and are very popular with children of all ages?

The difference is Harry Potter are pure works of fiction which chikdren understand. MBOBS is presented to JW children who are indoctrinated to believe all the things they see and read in it actually happened. Plus Harry Potter books are aimed at children of a reasonable age with good reading comprehension, whereas MBOBS is aimed at kids who can just about read. Personally I think it is a detestable book and would not let my daughter read it

So something is good and ok if it is a work of fiction with death, dying and torture themes?

I have to say I don't think an age is specified so you use your own judgement when to let them read it, like a parent above my daughter who is 3 found it and was flicking through the pages, it was on a shelf in a jumble of books, I didn't rip it out of her hands in horror, I just let her flick through it and she found the rainbow in the noahs ark picture and thought it was pretty.

    Just a point about IQ

A person's IQ is not about knowledge. IQ tests exist which require little or no use of language. A test I completed (the advanced matrices test) can be done by anyone and doesn't require a knowledge of English (or any one language).

I agree that encouraging your children to read is a good thing, but it CERTAINLY does NOT mean that JWs are higher than average in IQ. It just means that they have been encouraged to read from an early age and this will help them in later life.

It is entirely possible for someone of AVERAGE IQ to be capable of reading well.

    Tales of the Talking Ass

Here is a tale that rivals anything Disney has put out in the last 50 years. I get a visual and audio of the Shrek donkey as played by Eddie Murphy.

What is unclear to me is exactly what difference it makes whether Ba'laam curses or blesses Israel. Standing at the border and ranting curses is going to do exactly what? Why is Ol Jehover so concerned about this man cursing that he would dispatch an angel, while his winged gofers seem to be busy when other really major disasters go down?

Ba'laam has a rather chatty ass

"You keep beating me and I will tell your wife what you do in the stable!"

    Angel with a pigsticker

"Dude, you are in so much trouble. Take your ass and go back where you came from or I shall run you through with my pigsticker here!

The donkey one is a cool story :) I used to like tha more obscure bible stories that were in the book as a child, anyone remember the copper serpent one that moses made so people could look at it after been bitten by snakes to be cured?

I was intrigued by the story so looked it up in the bible and found a bible king had to destroy the copper snake many years later because in typical human fashion people had named it and started to worship it.

I was a JW child that SHOCK HORROR liked this book any others like me? and which was your favourite stories?

I will try to scan that one and post it. There are some pictures I really like, such as Sampson with his cool dreadlocks.
