IDIOTS have said that this should happen.
After the true believers were taught about tacking, never would selfish ones without desire to repent seek reinstatement apart from the arrangement in God's organization.
Remember it said "at times the organization has had to readjust their understanding, SEEMINGLY to the opposite of a teaching..."
The "seemingly" is why the WT does not automatically reinstate.
Since they only "seem" to have reversed a teaching, it seems that the doubting one does not seem to believe the previous teaching. he cannot expect to "tack " back and forth in front of every wind of change Jehoobie blows his way and expect divine approval...
Since the WT has said that if a person is disfellowshipped, he has already been DF in heaven, it seems they cannot make the mistake of reversing a decision made in HEAVEN.
(This from a WT in the 80s, using the scripture "whatever you loose upon the earth will be loosed in Heaven, and whatever you loose in Heaven will be let loose upon the Earth." - can't member the verse, but that's how the talk explained it.)
One nauseating article in the 90s actually suggested that if a person was UNJUSTLY disfellowshipped, the discipline would do him good!!!!!!!
SO let us see what's going on. Jehoobie knows the witless is innocent of the charges. The Eddlers DF. Jehoobie upholds the decision IN HEAVEN.

Paperwork issues with the main office. Makes perfect sense to me, I deal with regulators. Government screwups and incompetance are pretty much the cost of doing business.

6 months later they ammended this position by letter and said it would not be an automatic df-ing offence.
the letter said that the decision was not retroactive and anyone who was df-ed was to remain so

That's a pretty outrageous hypothetical that you lay out, but even so my guess would be no. If that's the case, would not it work in reverse? Then, all the people that smoked in the org prior to the change in the early '70's would have to be df'ed, using that line of logic.

I was removed as an elder at the end of 06... Has there been an elders school since? (not the Patterson program)... at the elders school I went to, they even made a distinction between "hard core" and "soft core" as far as seriousness was concerned. I wonder which GB member(s) got to screen those videos to make the determination. LOL Not long before I was deleted as an elder, I sat on a BOE meeting with the CO regarding a fellow elder who got caught looking at porn.... short story.. he got slapped on the wrist...no JC...no reproof.... keeps his position, even now, as an elder and a pioneer.... all hush hush (except this post I guess...LOL) I guess it helps to take the CO golfing every visit hypocrites.... ...my sin to get deleted? But the Witchtower Babble and Trash Soc. Inc. taught until the early 90s that the separation of the Sheep and Goats had started at the beginning of the "time of the end." Since this was a "Judgement period" (Russelite Dogma) those dying whilst rejecting the truth, died, with NO HOPE OF A RESURRECTION.
With the reversal of the Sheep and Goats doctrine, Christ is said not to have arrived yet; people rejecting the message who die before that will be resurrected.
When he arrives in Kingdumb Power, he will do the separating on the criterion of how the people alive responded to the delusional rhetoric of the Witless at his door.
So we now have a situation:
PRE noolite:
A pedophile murderer answers his door to a little cute five year old.
"Oh, yes, yes let me have the rag - I mean Mag."
10 minutes later, he dies of a heart attack. But will get a resurrection under the old teaching.
POST noolite:
A pedophile murderer answers his door to a little cute five year old.
"Get lost you evil little squirt before I kill you."
Ten minutes later, he dies of a heart attack. But will get a resurrection under the new teaching.
Another scenario: pre noolite:
An old guy, gets a call, "Yes, little one I know you mean well, but I want to do good in the here and now. I sponsor 100 children and pray three times a day that Christ will save the little ones."
Ten minutes later he dies of a heart attack. No hope of a resurrection.
POST noolite:
Ditto - but now he gets the resurrection.
Strikes me the pedos are twice as likely to get a second chance. And we wondered why the WT has their policies!!
Are we not happified that current Witchtower dogma doubles the chances of a truly EVIL person coming back but halves those of a nice person?
So thinking Christians ask,

a) if the Borg teaches "no resurrection for the men of Sodom" at the time
b) if the Borg teaches "a resurrection for the men of Sodom"? at the time.
