Today I am just concentrating on the important sins....like how to get a life without hurting those I love. I agree with FHN, hurting yourself is a sin, my biggest struggle.
Do you believe in Sin?

Reading this list, I was struck by the fact that none of the traditional seven "capital" ["deadly'] sins or vices appear on the list. The traditional seven capital sins are [or were]:
1.) pride
2.) avarice/greed [in my opinion, not exactly the same as "making too much money." I can easily imagine a situation in which a person is well-paid while remaining free of envy]
3.) envy
4.) wrath/anger
5.) lust
6.) gluttony
7.) sloth
It seems to me that these seven deadly transgressions reflect the preoccupations/concerns/fears of a certain social hierarchy, and its tenacity in maintaining the status quo of the era.

I still subscribe to the idea that sin is any shortfall in the quest for perfection. I beleive that all sin is equal and that we are judged for our ability to repent and the struggle we make to be sin free. All sin is equal.
I dont need a survey to live by.

Of course not. I don't think anyone suggested that as the use of the survey. I am just curious how others view actions against this backdrop of thought.
BTW - your view of sin is of no value if you can't define perfection, is it?

Perfection is being without sin... all sin is equal. Last I heard (legend, allegory or not) only one man in history has met the mark and died to forgive our sins.
Those "7 Deadlies" and the 10 Comandments are a start for what could be called a sin.
Before the flames start...sorry folks, thats a little middle American cultural flaw I picked up way before becoming a JW... and one that I will always subscribe to.

I don't know Hillbilly. I respect your position. We all have one. But I can't find the use of an expletive equal to murder. I can't see how God would give me the same punishment for those two very different shortcomings.

Hmmm, if it's a flaw than you must be sinning by subscribing to it.

Killing without reason should come under "eye for an eye"... if we still took care of serious stuff like we ought to I am more than happy to let God sort out a killers sin.

I consider that I have never committed any serious infringements that would bring God's wrath on me. But according to some more ultra-conservatives, just breathing is a sin if it is not done in Jesus' name. I am still trying to determine what the watermark would be to call it SIN.
What if one lived a life as absolutely close to that of Jesus as could be expected of a human being? What if that person was an atheist? Or a Buddhist monk? Or a practicer of Wicca? Or just practiced secular Zen and Minimalism non-religiously as his lifestyle? Would he still be convicted of SIN? Just asking?

cant speak for any of those other cultures or religious ideas... but it seem from what I've read all of those cultures have some form of gaining rewards or punishments as some judgement or afterlife or such.
Speaking to the survey.... 4% of folks think that spanking is a sin. Abusing your kids (or dog or horse for that matter) may be a sin... but not correcting your children is a sin too.
the whole idea of ranking sin as represented in that survey baffles me...
