yep my witness family had no compassion for the students killed in china recently. Their response was very robotic and uncaring only commenting on how scriptures warned about earth quakes.

And when nothing is happening on earth, seems pretty quiet then they can go around that the end is so near because Paul mentioned about peace and security.

This is how some will spin the China quake, "Well, you know we can't get the preachin' work done there, hon, so this is Jah's way of saving this people. Better now than the big A."

I doubt most witnesses see earthquakes as gods retribution, or as 'saving' people from armageddon. But they DO takes the news gleefully as it raises their hopes of their 'investment' finally paying off soon. ITs like share traders hanging on news of oil going up again - the profit they will make!! (nevermind how it is affecting the poor)

anyway, here's a thought, from my statistics textbook...

which series of toin cosses is real, and which is fake? (H stands for Heads, of course, and T for tails) The coin was balanced and fair.

If you thought set 1 was fake, it may be because you didn't think getting 9 tails in a row was very probable. This was in fact a real set of coin tosses, in fact, only about the 5th of a series of coin tosses I did.

How does this apply to this thread? When JWs see a few disasters, economic problems etc together, they conclude it MUST be Jesus' sign ... they cannot understand how a few disasters can all strike at once, because they do not understand probability (well, most people dont understand probability either ... our brains aren't wired to be able to intuitively understand real probabilities ... which is why people buy Lotto tickets)

Please could someone with a lot of knowledge of JW's tell me something. The WT is also talking about all of the worlds problems, it seem to be its main job. However, is there one major problem that they overlook? Have they ever mentioned scaremongering from the media has created a paranoid society? This is a very real problem but of course this might be the only problem they do over look because it feeds them. Anyone know if they have never mentioned this?

No, not God's retribution, but rather they think God allows these disasters to happen for his own reasons. Like he can't get the JW's into parts of China to preach because Satan is in charge of the governments of the earth. I've heard this kind of thing before.
