Question for any Bible Believer????????

Aaaccckkk, this is one of those arguments one can engage in with a jw that simply becomes like a dumb bar of soap. Just when you think you have a grasp on a turn of logic that may resemble a "point", it slips right out of your hand and slides all over the floor of the shower. When you reach down and try and find it, the shampoo gets in your eyes, and it hurts like crazy so you reach for a towel. You get water all over the floor while trying to reach the towel. You step on the soap while blindly groping for towel, and bang your hip against the stupid soap holder handle. That hurts like a total bitch, and you reach down with your free hand to rub the pain away. You are now feeling dizzy as well as blind, so to keep from losing your balance, you flail and grab onto the shower curtain, pulling it and the entire shower curtain rod ensemble down in the process. Now, the entire towel, shower curtain, bathroom floor, walls, etc. are all wet, and you are naked, with soap in your eyes still, and a huge pile of sodden debris is waiting to be cleaned up.

You tell yourself that in twenty years you will not remember this moment in time; you chant for the zillionth time the ever-faithful mind-numbing and proof-tested zap that anxiety! mantra: "the former things will not be called to mind, neither will they come up into the heart". You laugh at how much of a huge fucking riot your entire life is, but hey, in a thousand years, when everything is beautiful all the time, it won't matter anyway. This life is simply an endurance contest, after all... and he won't let me go through anything or get tempted beyond what I can endure.... and if I CAN'T endure it, there is only one possible explanation.... it's a lack of faith on my part.... better immerse myself in even MORE prayer, more meetings, more brain-blocking, more denial, more of whatever it takes to shake this pesky awareness of the too many red flags to keep track of popping up every minute of the day..... Hey, this current human existence thing is SUPPOSED to suck, anyway....! I must be getting it "right"! la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la lala la la la la la la la lalalalallalalalalalalalalalladjoaigaidfbjlkdfgpoaerjpa

    LL... too funny!!

Your note had me cracking up!! Not so much because of what you said, but because I can relate to it as an answer to JT's original question.

No matter how many holes there are in the Christian/biblical/JW answer to the question, you will never win the argument. So, why bother? Why reach over to pick up the soap? Why not just call it a day, rinse off, step out the shower and move on to something meaningful?

Btw James, god allows evil 'cause there's not a damn thing he cares to do about it. It's good TV... you know, like when the 'bad' guy wins the WWF wrestlin' match. Good for ratings. Who wants to see the good guy win? We NEED the Hitler's, the bin Ladens, the serial/mass murderers of the world.

    Makes life more interesting.

I would like to thank everyone for their thoughts on the matter.

While i may not agree with the views of many expressed along the lines of somehow god is teaching us something or he allows it to happen for a reason theory-

i find it hard to reconcile a god of love with a god who is suppose to have the power to stop pain/suffering and don't

most attempts to explain this diliema in my view fall basically in the same box that wt has built over the years

i fully understand the difficult sitution that this clear contrast puts believers in -

on one hand they want to declare that thier father loves them- yet he watches as thier moms, sisters and aunts are being raped

i just find it kinda hard to accept a loving god who can look down on folks see them suffer and watch like the rest of us

    how sad

    i do appreciate your comments.

The 'dubs have some truth in their explanation but they try to rationalize instead of use a scriptural interpretation. Actually, NOT simply getting rid of the original pair is a form of grace. No, don't tell me you would have done any better in their place.
God has mercy on whom He has mercy. He is sovereign, He is holy, He's given the elect an 'out' and we don't know the standards. It's been predestined. Didn't you study Romans, Galations, Phillipians and Ephesians when you were a high and mighty elder?
He is "I am" and we, "are not". Without Him we don't exist in the first place. Do you want it really logical and well-reasoned?
"Mere Christianity" & "Miracles" by C. S. Lewis are a good start and "Evidence That Demands a Verdict 1 & 2" will help you see the history clearer.
Why am I blunt? SOME keep asking the same type questions over and over, thinking they have it all figured out, secure in their self-centered worlds, yet just as lost as they were as a JW.

    Hi JT...

How many books have been written in attempts to address this issue? A kajillion bajillion, perhaps.

Here's another opportunity for people to get their opinions into print:

Each Sunday, The Washington Post "Style" section has a feature called the "STYLE INVITATIONAL". It is usually hilarious beyond compare. Last sunday they extended the opportunity to submit answers for any of six questions, and one of them was......

    Why does God permit evil?
    (or somthing to that effect.)

I will definitely be looking out for that particular winning entrant's efforts. The prizes are awesome... plastic Elvis masks embedded in lava lamps, miniature replicas of the Sudanese borderlands, fake "Barney" pics, etc.

As for the typical JW response to the question, I always asked -when I was still active - what they thought about the idea of sending a small child, say, age 6, to New York City, alone, and with no money or contacts. Would the child "deserve" the predictable consequences? Would the child "learn" from his experiences? Perhaps the angels would "learn" something from this theatrical display?

Maybe there is a ban on TV in heaven. ?

Your serious concern and perplexed grief regarding the issue originally brought up is evident, and I hope you find some relief and peace in your heart as soon as possible....

    Warm regards,

    lauralisa

    PS to Rex B13:

are you saying that you do NOT want it really logical and well-reasoned?
