Signs Of Imminent Departure?

Back in the 70's, when I was DF'd for associating with other DF'd people, a lot of us recently DF'd ones met up for a mini apostofest at Sandy Balls in the New Forest.

We had a great time, lots of barbies, lots of wine, lots of folk songs by Bob Dylan,Tom Paxton and Harvey Andrews. We could all strum a few chords too. Her Ladyship could bring me to tears with her rendition of Cat Steven's Father and Son.

There were also some other common factors besides the folk singing and wine drinking. We were all in new relationships. We all smoked. We all drove open-top sports cars! I had an MGB, so did my pal Mike P, Laurie S drove a TR 5, Jenny P drove an MG Midget.

What I want to know, is, does the driving of a sports car mean that you are on the verge of leaving the JW's?

Does playing a musical instrument mark you as a possible rebel?

Does having a new relationship make the "Truth" less important?

What signs of impending departure did you display?

Nothing as cool as you, but then I was DF'd at 15. Signs I showed were smoking, drinking, vandalising, wearing make-up and flying into blind rages. Oh, and playing very loud music, which along with punk and New Wave included Bob Dylan and Cat Stevens, so there's a definite folky link going on here!

    Hi E-man,

Inwardly the signs I showed were THINKING about stuff in the news (fossils, dinasours, etc.).

Outwardly, it was . . . I guess just a gradual pulling away, thinking 'why am I doing all this stuff?'

Not very exciting, huh? No sports cars, no relationships, etc. But I'm much older!

    Cheers!

HI Eman: A question about the TR5, In the states I saw TR4 and TR6.
    I have never seen a TR5. British only sale? I had a 1965 A/H 3000 myself.

    Mike047,

Most Triumph afficianados rate the TR4A as the best ever Triumph Roadster, however I often used to borrow Lauries TR5, and it was a stunner. The 5's had an inherent problem with rear suspension, and in particular with corrosion in the rear wings which means there's very few roadworthy one's left around. I seem to remember that it didn't measure up to US import laws also. I never did drive an Austin-Healey 3000, although I did own a Frog-eye AH Sprite for a short period.

Here's the TR5, same colour as Lauries and on the same G reg plate which dates it at 1968.

I sorta beat the WTS at its own game. I left spiritually a good while before I did actually....so it was the 'parousia' in reverse. There was not much of a warning. Just went! I said I was going to another hall...but never did.

Woke up one Sunday morning next to a gorgeous 19 year old after the best night's sex I'd ever had (I was 24 and 8 months pregnant at the time - my husband had just pushed off).
No going back from there for me I'm afraid, so I stayed in bed!
He did a lot for me - made me question my beliefs.
